I don't need to have just one wall painted a color, I just like accent walls but I am certainly flexible on ideas! I saw a picture online of a room that I am kind of basing this off of, although I have to make modifications. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of where I am moving because I am not in yet (and silly me I didn't take pictures of the room beforehand), but it is a green color right now which will not work at all with my red sofa (and I don't like that color either hah) so it does have to be painted. I have attached the picture of the room I like and am kind of basing it off of to help visualize (the picture has red chairs which I wouldn't have, and my space is much smaller). I like your idea of going with a lighter grey though. The 4 walls in all cream could also work, but I have seen a lot of all white rooms in magazines lately and I am loving the look- so crisp! Camlan I do like your ideas- I agree that I think the white rug and white curtains is too much. Thanks for the ideas everyone! OK, I have only rarely seen a 70" round table so that is good info that yours is 60" So that last drawing has the right size table. Once you get your furniture arrangement set up, then we can determine how to best deploy your art. I'm thinking of a "grouping" on the dining side of that long wall. Perhaps the biggest (crab?) and then stacking some on each side of it, or even adding to the grouping to make up a "gallery" look. We can figure that out later.

Roopa if you bought that oriental rug with the bright red and the aqua background, I would go with a pale aqua or pale blue wall. Off white, pale yellow or cream works very well too. It's the daytime light with all the beautiful windows you have to feel airy during the day and a pleasing wall color to look at night and enjoy, not overpowering!

It is a 'real' fireplace..it just has a gas starter which are SOOOO nice for eliminating the messy of getting a wood fire started!! The bottom line is in a room with a fireplace and a TV the seating needs to face both for the room to be used to its fullest. Fireplace/TV side by side is the most aesthetically pleasing positioning. BUT the OP doesn't have that option anymore. When that TV dies I would consider putting a new smaller one to one side or the other. For now a shelf makes the most sense to me. A random light fixture for no purpose seems like a missed opportunity for storage. The added COLOR by Celery, to that space is my personal favorite suggestion. I do not understand half the seating in the room with it's back to the TV/fireplace. This room gives the impression most of the TV watching happens in the kitchen/dining area, Why else the need for such a huge TV with little seating in the actual room?
