goldy- Are you referring to leaving your computer/monitor fully on all night to get that number? If you have your power options set to standby or hibernate after X minutes of inactivity, the computer uses very little energy -- in the range of 3-6 W per hour. But if you leave it fully on when you're not around you do waste a lot. Here's what I come up with for costs. To make the numbers easy, lets say that the average computer uses 4 W in standby mode, which would be about 100 W per day, or 3 kWh per month. At 12 cents per kWh, that's about 36 cents a month, or less than $5 per year. Now of course, if you leave on your peripherals, like your printer all the time, you're unnecessarily wasting more energy, so it's a good idea to think about what you do with those when you aren't using them. I'm not arguing that you shouldn't turn your computer off if you want to. However, in our house the computer gets used intermittently from first thing in the morning to after midnight, so I leave mine on all the time with the appropriate energy saving options invoked. In addition, since I live in the Pacific NW where home heating is required for more than half the year, the little extra heat generated during those months by my computer on standby simply means that the furnace doesn't have to provide quite as much heat! I've had the best luck forcing pups by potting into a pot a size too small. Root bound aloe pup the most prolifically. Let them get to a decent size before separating though. The littles don't grow as quickly once separated. One year, my mama threw off 36 pups and one even matured quickly enough to shoot out 10 more before the year was up. Sounds crazy too but mine love to get watered frequently. Maybe that helps the pupping.

Sorry, I didn't realize I got some responses. Ok, I have Windows 7 Hp desk top. I have a Wi Fi as I have another laptop, a kindle and a smart phone. I live in the boonies and am not lucky like a lot of you city folk who have unlimited access. Right now our limit is 12 Gig which we go over periodically and then it is $10 a gig that you can buy extra. If you don't buy it then they cut your speed way down that makes it not even worth trying to use it. So, I don't want to go over. I have a new genealogy software program that I am trying to add information to and this is how I realized that I wasn't turning it off when I thought I was. I had Family.search running in the back ground so I could refer to what I had already entered on line. Some things I have a paper record, so I would turn off the internet (I thought) when I didn't need the web site but I didn't actually close out the page. I realized that if I left the page open, even though I hadn't actually clicked on "connect" to turn it back on, I was able to go to other pages which meant I was not disconnected like I thought. So then I noticed that when I turned on my PC and it booted up, that the internet icon showed that I was connected, even though I didn't open up my browser. So what you are saying kudzu9 is that as long as the browser is not opened I am not using my data. So I will just close those pages when I'm not using them. Right?
