Yes, they work. They're neutral and pretty, and just need to be spread out a bit as maddielee suggests.

Thank you maddelee and TurquoiseRose! I think I scrunched them because I didn't think they looked right. It's funny how different the color of the drapes looks when they're in my living room than they do in the store. They seemed much warmer before I put them up. I'm trying to do warm and airy and that's a hard combination with my furniture!

You know, my husband just said he thinks the problem is the rug. He may be right! Maybe I need something lighter or simpler. Or am I just being too picky? Thanks for your comments. I do have a place to move the rug and perhaps that would make the room the warm and cozy/light and airy that I'm looking for. This is where I spend a lot of time reading. I'd be very happy if I didn't have to take those darn drapes down after the ironing and ladder climbing!

Well, I'll be the outlier here - I don't think they do anything for your room at all. Your room is so nice, but I think they look drab and utilitarian instead of light and airy. I think something creamier would be great with your paint and floor colors, even if you don't get a print.

Not sure what you don't like about the rug in the room? It looks like it is classic and could live just about anywhere. I especially like it with your book cabinet and the blue chair - well, all the furniture, actually

Which do you like more in the room, the rug or the drapers? I happen to like the rug better. It gives the room depth and interest - on their own the drapes do not . So if you take out the rug, then what?

That confusion in the colors is exactly what I was feeling, ingrid. I think I'll give it a few days and decide whether to try a different rug in there or order the red color way of your drapes and see if they work. They might. I know the leather chair isn't the right color, but it's what I've got for now. The drapes do match the couch. I like everything individually, but I've never been good at pulling colors together. I know when something doesn't feel quite right, but I usually have no idea how to make it better. That's why I liked what you did in your living room so much! The new rug and drapes lightened the room and work so well together!

You have a lovely room. If it was mine and I wanted light and airy, I'd go for curtains the same weight as you have now, but in a bright white fabric. I'd find pillows with a white background to toss on the couch to help draw the white across the room.

Another fun option would be printed curtains with a combo of white and dark blue (navy?) and use the same print for throw pillow covers. The dark blue print would play nicely with the navy chair and the rug, which are already working well in the room, imo. FWIW, your leather chair reads as a neutral to me, but if you don't like it, I'll take it off your hands for you. :-)

If you want light and airy, the curtains and the rug would have to go imo. You can still get a lovely rug with a pattern but in warm light tones and, from that rug, choose the tone for your drapes. Linen drapes would look fab.

from the pics i think they look fine with your furniture and the rug, but if they look more lavender in person, i'm not sure i would love that... with the buttery walls, it might look a little too 'easter y'!

If they remain open the majority of the time, I would widen the rods about 6" on each side. I think you need a pattern on the drapes.

I decided to 'shop my house' before even trying to move the heavy rug and take down the drapes. (I think the drapes read lavender because there's so much green outside the window.) Anyway, something that laughable moments said gave me an idea. I put a red pillow that pulls the red up a bit on the couch:

If you like the drapes (which are a nice texture and airy looking) then I would find a different rug. I have been on the hunt today and have seen so many! Not a fan of the tie backs bc the curtains are not super full and of need of tying back. What size rug are you looking for. BTW, beautiful room and gorgeous rugs you have!!!

Ditto what laughable said. White curtains would look better IMHO. Those are looking lavender on my screen. The white will brighten it up and use navy accents. Add blue and white ceramics for a classic look. Your rug looks fine to me.

I like the curtains but if what you're going for us "light and airy", these are not. On the other hand, neither is your sofa or that chair so perhaps you need to give up the light and airy idea?

I think they work with the couch, but are just ok and feel a little off for the room. I think I'd like to see white curtains there. The white in the chair, throw, art, and trim on the rug. I really like the idea of adding a little blue and white ceramics.

indygo, have you looked at the CC Greenwich Plaid red and white curtains? I wonder if they're something you might consider for your room. With some red accents like pillows they might give this room a really dramatic punch and yet feel crisp and summery.

Thanks ingrid. I actually was looking at those. I'm obsessed with the CC website right now. I think I'll order that sample. I was also looking at the red French ticking stripe. And I love the idea of blue and white ceramics!

I don't think red and white check will help to pull off a light and airy look.

I've ordered samples from CC and think I'm also going to try the white version of the Emery drapes. I do like the thickness of the drapes and the way they look on the rods. I think I'm changing my adjectives from 'light and airy' to 'warm and cozy but not dark!' That seems to be a consensus! Thanks all.

I think you have to decide about the rug first, in or out. We just went from a dark oriental like yours to one with light colors (cream, light blue-green, and a touch of caramel matching our caramel leather sofa like your chair) and from there the room changed completely to warm and light. The rug has to come first. The more red and dark blue you add with your present rug the more you are getting away from what you said you wanted

I think the drapes you chose definitely work with your room! The color is simple and pretty against the wall and definitely go along with the couch you have in the room!
