Limping goose, swelling on foot/note for Seramas
Comments (3)Sounds like a bacterial infection. It is common for ducks and geese to get these. I've given 2 (Penicillin G Procaine Injectable Suspension 300,000 units per ml) injects; the first one was 0.3ml followed by second one also 0.3ml three days later. Used a 22 ga needle, intramuscularly (breast muscle)-first on right-second on left. Remember to always (after pushed in to muscle) to slightly pull back on the syringe plunger to check for blood. If blood appears in syringe-pull out and try another location. You don't want to inject into a vein or artery. These can (including Penicillin) be purchased at any good feed store. Oral meds take 7 to 10 days to work-and many times not too effectively. Long term antibiotic treatments can cause digestive problems. Feeding some yogurt after antibiotic treatments prevents digestive problems. CanÂt wait to see their pictures. If you take them with a wet camera will they look like they are under water?...See MoreWicking,,,,Cool Temps,,,,, Limp Plant
Comments (14)Yeah Nancy jump on in here, busy lady Im sure. Hey Barb everything is relative you know. Anyway I went to WM and got some of the worsted 4ply so I guess that will solve some of my problems. After all I guess Iwas using about 10ply nylon , no wonder my plants are starting to say uncle. Also at WM I saw this neat waterer/birdbath , had 4 reservoirs self watering, its blue and you can hang it or mount it on a 4x4 post. Didnt get it but I know I will be sorry if I dont , they only had 3 left. Just may have to go back there, it was $9 plus. Dont worry Barb Im sure the Pats will be back next year even more hungry after getting their butts kicked by you know who. Dont worry Im sure the colts are just a flash in the pan. They say after winning it all its hard to keep that edge and the colts have about 10 free agents and some of them you know will go elsewhere....See MoreSeedlings suddenly discoloring/wilting
Comments (6)is this your first experience in a hothouse??? too hot during the day stresses the plants.. each plant individually.. you cant compare between types ... cold at night is worse ... again.. no comparing between types ... i would never use wood as dividers.. as there is no way to sterilize it.. and things happen when wood is laid on wet soil/media ... when the media gets too hot.. or too cold .. then plants react differently ... some will get extremely stressed .. certain temps are required for germination.. and some are requisite for continued growth of the seedling... until they are mature enough to thrice.. regardless ... what i think you are finding.. is that germination is the easy part ... and growing on.. a vast number of plants.. can get really tricky .. i am thinking there might be a greenhouse forum ... but all that said.. with all those variables to perfect.. it would still be a long jump... for me to move to disease .... and remedies ... as a cause ... rather than an effect ... of your problems ... if in fact.. some such arose.. it is most likely ... due to the cultural variables above ... its still extremely early.. remove the uglies.. and plant more.. in a different spot ... by the time they come up... hopefully spring will also arrive.. and moderate all the temp variables ... ken ps: is that growing media.. or compost??? .. as in not a professional product .......See MoreTomato plant suddenly wilting....Help!
Comments (25)Visiting Germany I saw incredible tomatoes growing within thick high hedges. When I questioned lack of sun I was told Germans consider Tomatoes shade plants. This year I am doing an experiment on my west facing Lanai in Southwest Fl. I have 20 plants from seed in large pots - they get Sun only when the sun passes over our building (about 1:30 to 6:30 or 5 hrs). 10 get sun through a dark screen which is cuts down the sun quite a bit. The other 10 get it direct. Results so far: All are thriving even with the 4-5 hrs sun they get. Those that get their sun through the screen have blossoms (35 so fasr), those with direct sun have no blossoms but the plants look great. The ones that get direct sun wilt during the direct sun period, the others do not. Within 2 hrs past direct sun the wilted plants recover. All are watered the same and I use a soil moisture meter to follow that (ususally every 3 days). I will continue the expt a bit longer but will likely get my 10 Sunnies behind a screen....See Morecefandl
