I'm totally blown away by people's generosity (longish story)
Comments (30)Thank you for this story, that lifts one's spirit in these difficult times, Nicole. And thank you for your kindness to the lady. Does she have an easy chair? I think that I have one here ... and a chesterfield, but I can't put that into my car. Does she have some skills that she can use? Though many are helpful ... would that more people in our society were so willing to help others when they are in need. Good wishes to you and Claude and your young ones ... and to the lady and her young ones, as well. Please let her know of the good wishes expressed for her, by several persons, here. ole joyful...See Moreblown away with electrical quote
Comments (9)Hi cncguy I have not yet built here in CT but the PB we will use also works closely w/ an electrician; says he's reliable and since he has experience w/ my PB, the jobs fit well together like a puzzle. Anyway, my PB quoted $1850 for electric. Our pool will be vinyl, rectangle, 18x40 and is set back and off to the side from the house due to septic. If you want specific info on our builder, feel free to email me at soccerfans6@yahoo.com. Best of luck with your build! Joanneswimsct...See MoreI'm just Blown Away
Comments (9)I can't answer about the hereditary factor--to my knowlege, I'm the only one who's had them in my family. But tendancies toward so many conditions do seem to be passed down through families. It's true that some stones are of a composition that makes them more resistant to blasting--from what I've read, at least. Sandi, I'm wondering what kind of machine you had your lithotripsy with? Was it the one that used a vat of water? From what I've heard, with that one, they also injected a lot of novocaine around the kidney (I've been told that was the source of the bruising with those machines). The machine I was treated on is a Dornier Delta Lithotripter. You merely lay up against a fluid-filled cushion, there's no novocaine (you're anesthetized into a very relaxing, restful napping state). At one point, this time, I could hear the conversations going on around me, but there was no pain, no sensation of any kind, actually. With this type of machine, there's no bruising--my side was very faintly pink, but that's all. Oh, and this machine blasts the stone with 1500-2500 shock waves. Since you said you had your last litho 4 years ago, I am wondering if it was on one of the older type? And if maybe you'd have better luck--and more comfort--with one of the newer versions if it's available in your area? Both my procedures were extremely comfortable. First stone was about the size of a small (Jelly Belly-type) jelly bean. This one is maybe half or a third of that. Really wasn't urgent that I have this one done--it wasn't causing any problems, but since we'd already met our deductible, it just made sense to go ahead (only cost me $83 this time). I've heard people who swear by Lithotripsy, and those who have had problems, but I have wondered if we're comparing apples (newer machines) to oranges (older ones)?...See MoreBlossomtime
Comments (37)I still have my Blossomtime on the arch. It is doing a little better since I had a maple tree cut down. I also put an own-root one in a large pot next to a fence. I think it's in its third year and is doing pretty well in the pot. The pot is in shade but the plant reaches over the fence into sun. I may have taken the bottom out of the pot so it can freely root into the ground. i don't remember. But if you have a spot that is too hard to dig, one option is to grow a rose in a pot and let it root through the hole. The roots often will penetrate the soil in the tough spot and some can do surprisingly well. I really like your picture of your shrub Blossomtime, Pat bama. It is gorgeous as a shrub. My Blossomtime is kind of bs prone but not extremely and does better with morning sun to dry the leaves....See Morejim1961 / Central Pennsylvania / Zone 6
