I think you are right in your decision to avoid wood-like tile, if it borders real wood..

Other than that-a bit hard to say, since I don't know your house. Even though bathroom is a separate space, it's part of the house. where do you live? what is the style/architecture? what do you like? what are things that are important for you to have in the bathroom, in terms of comfort/safety? ( for example the-non-slipperiness of the tile was paramount for me when I chose; but everybody and their preferences/concerns).

Because, you see, I can picture this vanity in a colonial house, and in a Mediterranean too..you can do very simple white and black scheme, or white and gray, and it will be beautiful..or you can do bright colors and terracotta on the floor, and it still will be right in the right house..

What I do think though-since the vanity has solid, somewhat ornate appearance-I'd go with a simple-looking countertop, marble or quartz, white or gray..I think white will look great-depending on the other elements of course.

Well, I'd say you can easily recreate it. I think your inspiration picture bath has porcelain tiles..there is plenty of choice in the stores nowadays. If you pick white, or white and gray(like in certain marble or quartz that mimics it) countertop for the vanity, and do light gray porcelain tiles for example..you can go with bigger tiles for a modern look, or with smaller, for more traditional one. Porcelain tiles often also have texture that creates more friction-important in a place that gets wet. White and black or white and gray floor will look wonderful too, but probably a bit harder to keep clean. You can do this "chess board" look, or hex mosaics, or basketweave-I think it might look very cool in your house. But if you prefer one color on the floor-it will work perfectly well too. I'm saying "gray" because in my opinion it will play with a color of the vanity very nicely; I love this juxtaposition, but it can be anything really. What is the color of your hardwood floors?

PS I don't think a white vanity is safer than any other vanity..:) It really depends on your preference, and on the house itself.

But I must say-if you really love white, generally speaking, your choice immediately expands. I love colors-when it comes to materials, it gets trickier and more expensive. White and black or white and gray, or white and blue-that's where you have a sea of choices. Without overpaying. It is just so classic, and it's everywhere, and you can play with it to no end.

I would personally choose a light cream/brown granite or quartz. Then go with a tile floor that has a bit of variation, but nothing too busy.

I like that travertine-like tile, to the left, with the vanity. The kind of tile looks nice next to the hardwood in the adjoining room. I have a similar tile in my kitchen and there is hardwood right next to it and it is very nice.

I also have similar travertine-like tile, and it does look good next to hardwood. Or rather, the hardwood looks good next to it :) Ours is warm, medium(not too dark) walnut. But I'm probably tired of this travertine tile a bit. I didn't decide on it; the previous owners put it in. It's fine, I never ever thought to change it; but it wouldn't be my first choice, after several years living with it. I do like though how you can see all sorts of things in it, if you look attentively..sort of how you see different images when you look at the clouds..:)

So of course it will work too. Depending for what look you go..

Then the countertop should be rather cream than white..

Thanks for all the comments. Mark_rachel, I like the second pic you put up. I might go that direction. I also like the idea of a spanish look. Nothing over the top, just a hint of spanish colors.

Went to look at some granite today. Here is what I'm thinking. Color is Shiva Kashi.

Lol! It's okay to not know what you want, especially in this country..if only black or white was available, the choice would be simpler.

Just decide whether you like earthier palette, or the one that lends itself more to "cleaner" colors.

Most of people move away from the earthier one(granite, travertine, etc.) just because they had it for a long time. Hence the "gray" trend which in reality is a trend not a for a gray itself but for "cleaner" colors the gray tends to be nice background for.

But it really shouldn't matter, what matters is what you love and whether your house supports it too.

As I've said, your vanity can work with (almost) everything.

Spanish can be both I think. It's usually on a warmer side, here at least(I live in CA right now)..but if I remember Mediterranean, where I spent many years and where I frequent to visit.. it's much more inclusive that it seems.
