My mom has SW Sands of Time in her home. It is nice, but reads really pinkish. She is about to repaint with SW Softer Tan. The SW stores here (South Carolina) will send a staff decorater to your house for a free consultation (I think it is free if you end up buying from them). Other good SW neutrals are Kilim Beige and Macadamia, IMO. Hope this helps :)

But you really need to test it in your rooms. Colors change depending on light.

If your white is more towards the blueish, you may want to go with a grayer color.

I think that with such grand ceilings, and white tile, darker paint will enhance the lightness of the floor, and the house risks feeling not grounded enough. Which on the other hand can be interesting..if it is intentional.

For example, I decided on medium-dark floor in my current home with very high ceilings, because I wanted to ground it, didn't want the feeling of a ballroom. But I could go with light flooring and it would still be fine, it would just give a totally different mood.

There are designers and color specialists that do color consultations, sometimes even on internet. Maria Killiam's blog comes to mind. Laurel Bern's blog comes to mind. I'm sure there are many more. It's not exactly cheap, but it is just that-color consultation only.

Also, I don't know about the paint stores, but couple designers I met in other stores were nothing short of amazing-able to help so much without even seeing the space. They drew the space as I tried to explain, and their renderings were better than anything I could ever draw, even though I knew the house, and they heard about it for the first time in their life..

It doesn't happen often I must say, but when it does-oh wow. You're in luck.

So yes, definitely check with your local paint store..you might just meet somebody brilliant there, whose input will be priceless.

I am with nosoccermom...you may need contrast. I see a couple color squares painted in the background, What colors are those? (I happen to like both of them) They would warm your place up and give it a cozy feel. My friend used a similar color in her open floor plan and it is gorgeous. Or, would you consider color?

There are actually people who do color consulting, I have a friend who is one. Not sure how you would find such a person. Maybe call a local art store or paint store or ask and art teacher. That's what my friend is, and artist. She does the color consulting on the side which she just started doing through word of mouth.

With such a cool-toned white tile I would be more inclined to go with gray rather than beige, such as Accessible Gray, which nosoccermom mentioned. Asking for advice at a paint store with several pictures of your rooms in hand might be a great idea for starters.

I wouldn't go with too much of a brownish beige if the wood tone furniture stays, or else it will all be brown....

an we see a photo of the rest of the room to the left? It may help us suggest colors. And I agree with nosoccermom, too brown would make everything blend together.

I would lean towards something with some color contrast as well, maybe a gray with a slight bluish tint. It's a good background for the wood and will compliment the floors instead of just making it look like a big white span of space. All of the major paint companies have a feature available that allows you to upload a picture of your room and play with colors. It's not hard to do and can really help you discover the rooms potential. I tried doing it with the picture you posted but the pixel size of it was way too small.

I appreciate all the positive feedback regarding our dilemma. We added another possible color to the mix this evening, Valspar Macadamia Nut. Already painted a couple test patches on a couple walls. Need to take a look at the new color when the windows are open and the sun shines a bit. We did take some of the greys into consideration, just not our color tone I guess. We are leaning more toward the earthy tones. As far as furnishings, we are a bit concerned about everything kinda of blending but we're also considering changing up some of the interior decorating as well.
