Do you put the door trim on and tile up to it, or would you tile right to the door and have the trim go "over" it? Trim out the doors first. do people use a 'special' deeper jamb, or fur out the jamb? Why would it HAVE to be firred out? It's SUPPOSED to sit flush with the drywall. I will have a similar dilemma at the bottom - tile down to the baseboard? Usually tile walls don't utilize a baseboard. The tile goes straight to the floor. However, the times I've seen when baseboard WAS used, it went in first, and I tiled down to it. You want to make sure it has a profile where the top of it will be atleast as thick as the tile, though, so as to hide the edge.

In my main bathroom (with tub/shower combo), I was initially intending to install wood baseboard around the room and ended up trimming out the edge of the tub/shower with bullnose tile and then carried the bullnose tile around the room instead of wood baseboard. It was not my initial plan, but I'm really pleased with the result. The trim around the door is still wood and it goes all the way down to the floor with the tile baseboard butted up against it. I just thought I would mention it in case you wanted to give some thought to using bullnose instead of wood.

Laminate floors, like all rigid flooring products, need expansion space at the walls. A floating floor, like laminate, needs a snick more than a permanent floor (like tile). The rule of thumb is the thickness of the plank (ie. 12mm thick laminate) is the same as the expansion gap at the walls. In my example, the 12mm (1/2") laminate will need 12mm of gap at the walls (1/2"). This could be too much for some quarter round. And it also depends on whether or not you have baseboards. If you do, are you going to remove them before installing the laminate? If you do not install the trim (quarter round or shoe mold...whichever you find more appealing) you will have a rather substantial gap at every vertical surface in your home. The amount of 'gunk' that will collect in that gap is going to be extensive. That's why trim was invented...to hide the gap between the wall finish and the floor finish.

do you have any more photos of your painted cedar walls? i have a cedar house as well, pan abode. I've been questioning painting the walls to brighten it up, I'd love to see more photos of your house and the painting process.
