I have found this with the Target Threshold Percales also..bur ironing does more for percale than just remove wrinkles....it also doesn't surprise me about this brand...they are the thinnest percale sheet ive ever seen. But of course Larsi we did get them on the cheap....if we try the smoothing tecnique on a better quality one we won't get far. Percale has absolutly nothing to do with the greatness of ones dryer, its all about the sheet...a good quality percale would never look or feel good using the smoothing method. In a case like this its the sheets quality. Yours looks nice Larsi.

Hope you all don't mind a question on percale sheets. I have always preferred cotton sheets & not the sateen ones of late. I only knew percale from the polyester/cotton blends on my kids sheets. I recently bought two sets of Martha Stewart print cotton percale sheets form Macy's. I like them a lot, but I am amazed that when you make the bed & lay the top sheet over the bottom one, I cannot pull the top sheet down to reposition it, it's like it is glued fast or pulling over sandpaper. While these sheets are not the softest I've had, they are comfortable. Just never had sheets that wouldn't glide over each other. What would my old sheets be if not cotton percale or sateen?? I never paid much attention to anything other than the fabric content, so know not much about weaves. I am even thinking of ironing the pillowcases because of all of you! I have ironed very little in my 32 years of marriage! This board is addicting. I wash sheets in hot water with tide or persil perls & only vinegar for the rinse if that matters.

The new sheets the Martha Stewert percales are the ones I'd be questioning..what you are describing does not sound like 100% cotton percale. It sounds more like microfiber. Do they come out of the dryer wrinkled a lot ? Do they make a soft crackly sound when you roll over on them?

Cadyren....your sheets do not sound like 100% cotton, Percale sheets. Agree with Mama!

For an inexpensive, but lovely set....Target's Threshold VINTAGE Percale sheets are great!

Printed textiles can be tricky because the printing is done on the surface of the fabric and then there is some type of finishing treatment. Depending on how the sheets are finished the result can be what you describe.

That said, you could try ironing the top sheet and see if that makes a difference. 100% cotton percale should be very smooth though that, too, can depend on cotton quality and if there is a percale weave but the threads are some type of blend.

But it sounds like a finishing issue to me.

Thanks everyone. The funny thing is the sheets feel smooth when you sleep on them. The are wrinkled, but not overly so. They are comfortable & a nice weight, I actually like them. It is just that they cannot be pulled over each other!

Larsi : I use the smooth cycle all the time but here its called supershort.

I runs for 8 min to get the stuff in there warm and dewrinkled.

Then just hang up to dry, some things need ironing still but it will be alot easyer.

Larsi, your smooth ironed pillowcases and smoothed sheets may be nice BUT I don't think they can compare to starched and ironed sheets. Years ago in a small town classic hotel, Rene's White House, getting into bed, wow, talk about smooth and comfortable and crisp all at the same time. Of course I don't have those at home but still remember the feeling of luxury!

Venmar, your right, no matter how smooth your percales look after drying and smoothing and folding tecniques they do feel much better after being ironed, it takes smooth to a new level that can not be accomplished any way other than a ironer of some type..but in todays busy world not everyone has the time or desire to iron bedding. I say if it feels acceptable using Larsi's method great, besides if you don't get used to ironed percales you won't even notice the difference LOL.

Another thing Larsi wasn't comparing his smoothed sheets to any thing least of all a hotel.

I Steam iron the pillowcases and flat sheet. Smooth, crisp and pressed. I will NOT iron a fitted sheet. Once stretched across the mattress, it does not look wrinkled at all, and with body heat...everything looks great.

I HATE starched pillowcases and sheets. To me, this does not feel good, nor inviting! Eeeeek :-O

Laundry Room fans, all the talk of nice linens and ironed pillow cases just got me taking that trip down memory lane, but I think I will try the ironed pillow cases next laundry day, a bit of luxury that doesn't cost much but makes you feel that much better. Easy to do, just get the iron out, thanks for the idea. Never intended a knock on Larsi's tecnique, he and the rest of you LRoom guiding lights have been inspiring the rest of us to up our game in the laundry room with your helpful sharing of knowledge, thank you all. Who knows, with the iron already out maybe I'll also do the kitchen dish towels,LOL, I have seen and used them at a friends and yes they are nice and just feel clean as well. By the way, do some Mieles still have a starch cycle and just what is that?

I remember old fashioned starch. We used to use it on clothes. I love starch which is likely why I love the cotton linen blends because those iron as if they are starched.

I haven't seen a box of starch since sputnik. Spray starch took over. Still love it on a white shirt.

White shirts and spray starch go hand in hand..lol besides white button ups usually mean dress up and perfection is a must.

I stopped starching bed sheets since I can't find a product I like. I also don't notice much of a difference not using it with percales if using a good hot steam and taking time.

Larsi starched sheets shouldn't have a Eeeeek feel to them, LOL it does make them more crisp though. I think your smoothing method is lovely so I hope you didn't misunderstand me..and just for the record, I don't always iron my fitted sheets..such a royal pain. Face it folks were all crazy.

MamaP...I never misunderstand you, Love Bug!!! Ironing anything to me, is a royal pain (god, I wanted to say something else, LOL). Ok, Pillowcases are super easy.

Ironing a fitted sheet is relegated to the Triple Never category!!!! :)

@grapeleaves - Here we get linen or cotton. The cotton-linen blend is standard in France.

Just for the record, I iron fitted sheets. Call me whatever you like.

Yes Roc..and as I've said I don't always iron the fitted..which means nine out of ten times I do..and I know some people think I'm crazy and have too much time..I may be crazy but there's never enough time lol.

@Roc You have a rotary iron, right? You're already doing the top sheet and pillow cases, what's one more piece? Is it one pass or two through the rotary for the bottom sheet? You've got me curious...

No, bottom sheet is complicated. I roll up to the elastic in rows then fold. The heat of the rotary isn't great for elastic. I don't care about the sides, just the center.

I iron as much as I can of the middle its just to difficult to do the corners, and not worth the agony. Lol.

Same as roc here, always iron fitted sheets.

Done it in the miele, ironed it like a cirkle, streaching out the elastic, then once in the midle, alot of hassle.

Alot easyer on the board, fold om half, then iron from one end to the other, iron as far as you can were the elastics are, what you havent ironed does not show when on the bed.

Turn and do the other side, done in max 10 min, gonna time me next time, probobly tuesday.
