Install Linoleum before or after cabinets?
Comments (0)I am planning to install linoleum (not vinyl) in my kitchen, and have heard various recommendations regarding the benefits of installing either the cabinets first or the floor first. It is a newly built kitchen on wood plank floor (I think that is what it is called) about 12' x 18' with a small island in the middle. Are there any experts out there who could advise me?...See MoreVinyl plank floor installation
Comments (5)I would ask why such a steep price for installation. Ask which order the kitchen will be put back together. A small room installation cost could work out because they use a "day" wage for small projects. I've heard of minimum charges of 1/2 day of work or 1 full day of work regardless of how long it takes. But I'm suspicious of this because the installer has MANY other things going on (or so I believe by your post). A person who is redoing someone's kitchen will often give a little so they can gain the entire project. The small space install only works if the ONLY THING s/he's doing is installing. And I never buy the 'nothing else needs doing' jazz. A sheet vinyl floor can have some WONKY substrates underneath (can look like a roller coaster ride). Sheet materials are VERY forgiving. A plank vinyl is NOT forgiving...at all. In fact, a poorly prepared substrate is GUARANTEED to void your warranty. And I mean 99.3% of the time the lack of prep is going to void your warranty IMMEDIATELY (before he leaves for home). I think you have some conversations coming up in the next few days. And to be clear for us, is this the SAME person who is doing the ENTIRE renovation?...See Moreinstall vinyl planks before or after cabinet installation?
Comments (2)All the flooring experts I have heard on this forum, plus a few contractors have said a definite "NO" to putting cabinets on top of a floor that floats - just as you are hearing from the flooring stores. This is a red flag about your contractor. I would check his references because this is pretty basic thing he should know. It is OK to install cabinets on top of tile and solid hardwood....See MoreInstalling vinyl plank flooring
Comments (5)Wow. We went to several stores and they actually suggested that we go over everything to save money. We were planning to remove the floors, but they said if you bought rigid core vinyl it would be fine. We can definitely remove the carpet ourselves, but I’m not sure about the other two. The wood is glued down, and I think the kitchen tile is on top of sheet linoleum. The sunroom is probably directly on the slab. We removed the bathroom tile ourselves and it was not fun. Plus after It was all up the slab was not level (it had several high and low spots). Here is the wood: We have some loose planks by the door and this is what is under them. And the product they were recommending:...See MoreMichelle Dellene
