Look for federal style bird cage dining tables. Lots of antique and new reproductiont tables out there. The chairs look like amtique french side chairs. Hopefully you live close to a large southern or east coast city.This isn't the type of thing you will find in Podunk,USA. It's beautiful and elegant and represents a way of life that seems to be lost.

I agree with jinx. Also search for "drop leaf dining table" -- with this you can put against the sofa like in jinx's examples and then expand when needed.
