need help picking out dining room table and chairs
Hello, I want to put a dining table and chairs behind the couch. The length from column to wall with lamp is about 124inches and from the wall to back of the couch is 72 but can potentially be 90 if we pushed the sofa forward. We want something that can seat maybe 4-6 people and not take away from the view. Any additional suggestions to make the space prettier are also appreciated.

Comments (37)firsthouse...I don't know. They come up pretty regularly...but not so regularly that I'd guarantee that they'd match. Have you hit the thrift shops/resale shops/goodwill in your area? That's where I found mine...and NC was NOT a bastion for MCM design. Lots of stuff made here...not much SOLD here. If you are in the SF area there should be lots of thrift stores with DM style chairs. Here are mine...recovered: From kitchen table to refinish Mine aren't anything special...not a known designer or brand...but they WERE cheap. $225 for all six. Of course...they had so many staples in them I ended up paying to have them re-upholstered instead of doing it myself...at $90/chair...but it was worth it. If you want to search on ebay...try running two searches. One as "mid-century modern dining chair" and one as "Danish Modern dining chair." Comments (10)I see that one of your kids is still in high chair mode. I have a round table, similar to yours, but mine is a real 1900 antique. I have had it since I had a highchair sitter and a toddler. I also didn't like the sea of oak, so I painted the pedestal of the table ( and have regretted that almost daily since about 3 years after I did it!) and painted the oak chairs that went with the table. Well, the chairs soon looked awful from kids pushing them into the table and chipping the paint and generally "using" the chairs. My advice would be to get tie on chair cushions to break up all the "oakey-oak" and when the kids have a few more years on them, then find new chairs or paint the old ones. Comments (10)I think the end tables should be dark and then add contrast with the curtains,rug, art, pillows, and cocktail table....see pics below for inspiration. Finish the living area before you start on the dining table as they will need to look like they relate to each other...... This room is example of added colors in the accessories and they all coordinate such that the sofa could be any color and the room would look finished. Here is another example of accessories finishing the room....the end tables and the sofa table and the floor are all similar in color but not matching, the the accessories give it punch all thru the room....fireplace, sofa, end table plant, stuffed benches, etc....the valances are the same color as the wall but they add weight to the room and add architectural interest to the windows, where as your curtains are not doing it....the sofa is way heavy and the accessories need more weight and well, just more in the room....See More

last year@Anna D if you live be glass, get it anyway; you have big glass windows if you are worried about not having other glass things. My hubby and I eat most meals at a bistro table and two fake wicker chairs. All three are a dark almost black. It has a glass top. But if company comes, we have to go to the dining room or outside. If it's just you two, go bistro. Otherwise try a table for four. Several follow...

last yearI would suggest a narrow table against the windows without chairs on the window side. It doesn't look like there is enough space to have a standard width table with chairs on all sides.

last year@Elle that's perfect but I can't find who is selling it. Can you? So @Anna D I agree with Elle that your best bet is a long narrow expandable table that you place against the wall. Seat people along the side and when crowder, at each end and expand the table too. Google "long/narrow/expandable dining table" to get these options, often on Wayfair.

last yearA long narrow table will also serve as a great buffet table. For chairs, I liked Elle's light wire ones, did you? I tried googling for transparent chairs and got what some call ghost chairs of clear hard plastic. Some are stackable! That may help you. But then I googled "wire/chair" and got something I really love given the view of the cable suspension bridge. And I like the slim cushioned sheets. What do you think?

last yearI think it would be hard to fit a standard table and chairs set-up there, and it definitely would impede the glorious view.
I’d consider a table that fits behind your sofa. Search ’dining table behind sofa’ for lots of ideas.

last yearI agree with jinx. Also search for "drop leaf dining table" -- with this you can put against the sofa like in jinx's examples and then expand when needed.
