Encore Crackle Tile Questions...
Comments (13)Rubyclaire, the silver will be perfect. The walls in my kitchen & attached family room are painted a light medium gray and my fireplace is Revere Pewter. The furniture in the family room are a mix of light greys & greige (Revere Pewter). If you have the time, go ahead & order the sample but knowing your colors & expectations, I feel confident the Silver will be beautiful in your kitchen. I expected consistent light silvery gray tiles & was thrown off with the rosy greige in the mix. Several people (Hollysprings & Greendesigns are the ones that stick in my mind) pointed out that my kitchen needed warmth. They were right. The Silver is a beautiful neutral color & you'll be able to accent with almost any color. I had decided my accent color was going to be blue & got stuck on those blue tiles. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose the Silver. I never even saw the other colors because of that sample board the tile shop made. I would have had one heck of a time choosing a color, so many beautiful choices. I love Bookworm's Cameo & Marthastoo Mint but I think Silver is your color. Edit: to be perfectly honest, I had the hardest time letting go of those blue tiles. Sometimes, I'm like a dog with a bone. It wasn't until after the backsplash was installed that I saw the light. Encore made two separate attempts (fired two small batches) to get me those blue ones. Thank goodness they wouldn't let me mix in random blues from one of the other colors. I have two boxes of extra tiles too. One more thing, where is Greendesigns? I don't think I've seen one of his/her posts in a long time. Comments (5)It is beautiful tile & your selections look pretty together. My concern is that you will get lots of different colors within each tile color that you order. Encore makes 53 different colors of crackle tile. If you look on their website at the color descriptions, each glaze is designated as minimum, minimum to moderate, moderate, moderate to high or high. My Encore Silver is designated as moderate. Within the Silver range, there are probably 3-4 distinct colors with light & darker tiles within those colors, depending on the color pooling. That's a good bit of variation in the tiles & one of the things that makes these tiles so interesting & beautiful. If you order 4-5 different tile colors, you are really going to have 12-15 or more colors to try to blend. If you can limit yourself to colors that have minimum variation, it would probably be easier. On the other hand, your tile shop has had experience blending them with a pretty result. The Encore website has a "Color Blends" section for mosaics that might be helpful. You could also email Encore. They were pleasant & responsive when I contacted for advice on sealing. They are beautiful tiles & you will love them....See MoreWhy is a backsplash so hard to choose?
Comments (78)Basically from a professional stand point, I deal with this dilemma on a daily basis. In my opinion having multiple levels of contrast really makes a kitchen stand out. What I mean is that the flooring should be opposite color from the cabinets, the counter top should match the floors, but the backsplash should tie all the elements together. I personally don't like when the floors, cabinets, countertop, and backsplash all match too much. For me to give my honest opinion on which backsplash I would put in my house, I would have to know the color of the floors and cabinets. However, without seeing those factors, I like the backsplash on the right more since it has more contrast then the option on the left, but still maintains similar colors too the counter. Regardless of my opinion, there is no real rule to this and is just my personal preference. Good luck on you decision. -Deluxe Vanity...See MoreCan anyone ID this tile or know of something similar?
Comments (103)I chose the Kohler Whitehaven sink in the 32-33" width with the tall apron. It's deep and plenty big for a little wash basin on one side. I also have a roll out dryer rack that sit across the top when I want to dry dishes. I love it! While I chose the seasalt color, and it IS beautiful (looks like suspended tapioca) honestly, it doesn't show up as much as I thought it would and I would just go with white if I had to do it over again....See Moreromy718
