Two stage remodel-- two contractors, bad idea?
Comments (3)I know of at least one such case where I live. A remodeling company built an addition to a home, and a custom cabinet maker (the same one who built my cabinets) did the kitchen. I know that the cabinet maker has his own installers. The cabinet maker doesn't build additions, and the contractor doesn't build cabinets. I don't see why it couldn't work, if everyone knew what their job was at the outset....See MoreKohler stages 33 + prep sink OR the big bad stages 45 only?
Comments (5)Stages is a prep sink. If you're going to take advantage of its features, it's the place you prepare your ingredients. Since you have room for it, go for the big one. Part of the point is that you can use the accessories to make it into counter space as well. OTOH, if you tend to leave a lot of dirty dishes in your sink, hide them there, having a separate clean-up sink for hiding the dishes is a good idea. Alternatively, have you seen the Galley sink??...See MoreHelp! Bad decor and arrangement in small room
Comments (48)You've gotten great advice so far. My two cents: don't get too hung up on a style name for your space. It can be limiting. I understand it will give you decor direction but first, figure out function (how to use the space, which belongings deserve to be kept, how to store and display them) then how it will look. If a piece doesn't fall 100% in a certain style, you can still use it. Love DH's pics displaying the guitars. That makes for a very cool room. :) I used to have vintage waterfall Art Deco pieces. Very cool but yes, there's something to be said for modern drawer hardware. ETA: I had more to say about the style name... :) What I wanted to say is instead of focusing on a particular style, perhaps you want to think about the mood(s) or feeling(s) you want your space to evoke? That can be a more "freeing" way of achieving one's goals for a room. IOW, describe your room with as many or as few words you'd like. That can help you fine tune the layout and decor. On my screen, the green dresser in the corner fits there well. As for the open closet, I'd think about getting a curtain for it. Something that's easy to keep open or closed, as my mood and needs dictated....See MoreThoughts on a bad contractor and a bad experience
Comments (41)HI Sunshine_31...I'm so sorry you are going through this. My story has evolved and gotten worse. We switched lawyers to a more responsive lawyer who is really is working to help us, unfortunately we are in a really crappy and complex situation. We know for sure they were unlicensed, paid for unlicensed workers, did not get permits (but charged, collected, and provided waivers for permits), collected for items they did not procure, over ordered items that have disappeared from our home (flooring and tile), and did not pass through money from the bank to the subs. The bank is acting shady and has lawyered up. 12K in flooring has to be removed and a new floor needs to be installed. We had to have "special inspections" since the most of the renovations were unpermitted and have to pay $3500 to have the electrical fixed and brought to code (mechanical and plumbing issues are awaiting a quote). I should hear from the AG for Michigan today regarding the case...I'm trying to stay positive, but this is all so wrong....See Moretackykat
