What eats corn stalks?? No corn even visible??
Comments (7)As will squirrels. They tend to cut the stalk a couple inches above the ground and then shred the stalk. The most tell tale sign of squirrels rather than rabbits is that squirrels will some times take the stalk a distance away. They probably do this for the juice as they give less problems when they have a bird bath or other water source handy....See More3-5 foot tall sweet corn stalks, normal ears, who knew?
Comments (5)I think hitting the ground just before the summer solstice could have hastened maturity, too. I've had this happen with early corn that I got out late. Always learning something new: the Big Wind blew over the early corn just after it had set ears. We propped em up with stakes and ropes, and they made quota -- 50 nice ears from 50 row feet. For all I know, their sloppy stature enhanced productivity due to increased photosynthesis....See MoreCorn stalk bundle and pumpkin prices
Comments (1)Personally, I think your prices will work just fine (for my area), The mums might be a bit high, but not that far off. Good luck with your endeavor....See MoreMice eating corn stalks and peppers?
Comments (6)I had forgotten that I trapped one of these critters last year and was able to snap a few pictures of him before I released him into some woods miles away from my house. After going back and looking at those pictures, I can say with some confidence that it's a mouse, not a vole. I can tell by the pointed snout and the long, body-length tail. Since I'm pretty sure it's mice and not voles doing all this damage to my garden, does anyone have any suggestions for the most effective way to exterminate what seems to be a fairly big infestation? I really don't want to use poison, but I'm open to any and all other suggestions. As I mentioned before, snap traps don't seem to be working because ants just eat or carry away all the bait (I think) before the mice can get to it....See Moreryan8king_sc_lowcountry_z8
