Earthworms, lovely earthworms -- but what kind?

User

I am finding so many earthworms. I was out very early this morning watering and found one HUGE one crawling up out of the leaves, with another smaller one right behind. I don't think these are red wigglers. They aren't red at all, just grayish-white and the smaller ones are brownish. I don't usually see them near the surface unless I'm out really early, or sometimes when I'm digging under the leaf mulch. I know red wigglers stay near the surface and "fishing worms" live deeper. I don't know exaclty how to raise wigglers, so I'm trying to just nurture the ones I have now, whatever they are. I wish I knew how to identify what kind they are. Can anyone help?
