perhaps they are beginning to recognize you?--they are so intelligent--and playful--or it could be that someone else has fed them? glad you are taking us landlocked frustrated fisher people along with you on your trips---I miss it--grew up in New Orleans and we went fishing or crabbing most summer weekends--love the sea we have several rabbits in our garden(darn rose eaters) that have become so accustomed to our presence that they will graze on clover flowers beneath our feet--we didn't do anything to try to tame them--they just seem to feel comfortable around us--I am really worried about what they are going to eat next, tho

I bought the 10X12 HFGH and it is up. I dug a hole and placed the base frame in it and filled it with what we call red breeze. I did have a bit of a problem with the instructions. I went to HF web site and downloaded a new set of instructions. That helped, but even with these new instructions, it left a lot to the imagination. They were different than the ones that came with the GH. I do want to make some modifications to our GH also to make it stronger. I am new to this site and would like to know how to find pictures on here, especially of the pool cover for insulation. I am thinking of putting up bubble wrap on the inside to help with insulation. Thanks so much Bill for responding! I'm not worried about using too much... actually trying to figure out how little I can get away with. We kept to one bin and used the bin size to keep the amount of worms we had under control. Now I'm kinda regretting my decision and thinking about starting another bin now rather then in the fall as I'm now worried I don't have enough castings for gardening needs later this summer. I was just adding a spoonful to my transplants in the ground and counting on that and natual soil to grow healthy flowers. But now with these container veggies I'm growing not quite sure what to give as the main source of nutrients for the veggies are going to be coming from the castings themselves (not counting on the potting soil to have much in there for the plants as it's mostly peatmoss and perlite). Also we are using bottom self watering (wicking)to do this so 'nutrients' won't be purged away. Basically now that we've got the vermicomposting down (actually learned they happier the more you kinda neglect them and just keep em warm and fed LOL tough little buggers) we are ready to learn how to most efficently use their castings as a main source of nutrients with veggies. Was under the assumption that castings are more packed with nutrients (on top of the bonus of microbial activity) that maybe less could be used in comparison to say standard organic compost some grow their plants with... in a container setting. Was I wrong to think that? Not sure if anyone has ever tried to use castings in such a way or it's even possible. P.S. Also, after talking to the hubby this morning we are hoping to get enough worms going now to supply castings in place of regular compost in a small (2x3) square foot garden next year. Normally the homemade soil requirement is 1/3 peatmoss, 1/3 perlite, 1/3 organic compost. Of course we would be using less castings.. maybe 20 percent of the mix.. and maybe up the amount of peatmoss and perlite a bit.

As far as I can tell, the vast majority of "robber sues homeowner and wins" stories seem to be urban myths. I did study one case in law school where a homeowner was successfully sued, but in that case, he had set up a gun on some sort of automatic trigger connected to the front door of an unoccupied cabin. The court said that this was going too far, taking the chance of killing someone to protect property, rather than life. The basic rule on self-defense is that you have to try to run away rather than use force, if you can do it safely. That basic rule does *not* hold true in your own home. There is no "duty to retreat" in your own home. The other basic rule on self-defense is that you can use only enough force to repel the attack. However, what amount of force is reasonable depends on your duty to retreat. Since you have no duty to retreat inside your home, you can use more force than you would outside your home. As to whether you can use wasp spray as a weapon, I don't know the answer. My best guess would be that if you used it during an attack on the street, the courts would treat it as any other dangerous weapon. If you used it in your home (or car, at least in some states), even if you planned to use it as a weapon, I doubt there would be an issue. The law varies by state. If you want to see what your state thinks about these matters, look up the "castle doctrine," as in "my home is my castle." As a practical matter, I think most people are okay using whatever force they need to protect themselves inside their own homes. And that's even more so for women. Where I could see it getting dicey is if some teenaged kid broke into a house for drug money, having no weapon and thinking the house was unoccupied, tried to run away when he saw someone was home, and the man of the house grabbed him and beat the living s*^t out of the kid. Even then, I'll bet most police officers would tell the kid that he shouldn't have been in the house in the first place. As to whether the man of the house could then be sued, well, of course he could. Some of the castle laws protect people from being sued in these situations, but for the most part, anyone can sue anyone. Can't necessarily win, but can start the suit.
