Lack of Gardening T.V. Shows
Comments (8)I totally agree with you about the lack of good (or even crummy) gardening shows. To tell the truth, I haven't watched The Victory Garden with these new hosts (just once did it), but was fairly addicted to Crockett, Thompson, and Swain who passed on good horticultural practices adaptable to any part of the country. I require a show that doesn't dumb things down, gets their facts straight, introduces some new plants, and visits lots of gardens and gardeners. With the hobby gardening industry the single most active group in this country, I'd think that HGTV would jump back on the bandwagon. It's a multi-billion dollar industry, backed by an incredible corporate faction. Why don't they (HGTV) get that?...See MoreTime to prune my favorite giraffe Adenium
Comments (116)Thank you for the compliment, Rick. I felt the need to find the perfect pot for all 3 plants before I could pot them, if that makes any sense at all. I am looking forward to seeing them respond with new growth. Next weekend I will be repotting some of my 16 week old A. obesum and A. arabicum seedlings. Some of the multiple plants that we found in Florida gave me a couple of ideas with the repots. I would like to try potting up some juveniles together and train them to form unique duos and trios. If I use 3 different cultivars then come blooming time, if I am lucky there will be 3 different types of flowers on them too. Just an idea...perhaps it will be good material to start a new thread. Comments (55)I bought some obesums in Germany two weeks ago. 3 x "Pure White" (biggest seedlings) and 4 x "Deep Red": They are all growing happily now, and one of the "Pure White"s has flower buds. White flowers are definitely on their way. :-) I plan to sell them, but I'll keep one of each cultivar....See MoreNew companions for the adeniums
Comments (26)I spent an entire day with my eldest DR seedlings yesterday, repotting about 50 of them into planters a next size up. So today, to reward myself, we went out to some garden centres and I bought myself some new companions :-) Euphorbia Cocklebur Pineapple. Hm, I thought it looked very similar to the E bupleurifolia x susannae I already have, and as I'm looking up Cocklebur because I'd never heard of it before, it it the same E variety... oh well, the new one is a lot bigger than the two I already have, and it was an absolute bargain. Had never seen this before: Jathropha Podagrica Compact, a welcome stranger to the family. and a Crassula Hottentot (but I'm pretty sure that is a Dutch variety name...) Then, as if we don't have enough of them already, two more DR's, grown from cuttings. Standard flowers, but, they were cheap, full of flowers and buds, and nicely shaped with branching starting at the base. They will keep us surrounded with adenium flowers over winter whilst the other 2 plants grown from cuttings that I bought in spring have nearly finished flowering, and badly need some pruning. Sorry (kids cats): nowhere for you to sit on the cabinet anymore......See Morehalocline
