My favorite time of year
Comments (19)I'm back from a weekend in Charlottesville and seeing Tufton Farms, which was lovely! It was great to see you Connie! It took all my willpower not to buy more roses after your talk. Ann, almost all my peonies bloomed except for a few I had transplanted or newly planted last fall which hadn't settled in. Christopher, I got my Quatre Saesons Royale from Sherando roses which is no longer doing business. Randy thought it was slightly different from the Four Season Rose hence the name, but I now forget what the difference is and don't have the other to compare. This one stays small (it does suffer from blackspot later on and is runty) and I just snap the buds off and not prune it back, but I could try to take some cuttings for you. Gringo, I think Munstead Woods is my favorite red! I would recommend it. Thanks La vie. My roses have picked up in my absence and are almost fully bloom now! Comments (18)Marie- thank you :). Yes- about 3 inches is right! I thought for a minute I raised them too much. Lol Lady- thank you!! I was surprised with the size of those caudex too under the soil! Lol. Very pleased with the potting I might add :). No, I don't know the name of the Adenium unfortunately- they were a gift :) Carol- thank you! Yes- fun to see what they're gonna look like!! Love them very much :-) Chuy...See MoreOut-of-control Adenium, where would you prune?
Comments (15)Be patent with me. I'm dealing with some early morning pain and medication. :-) If I'm way off here, just have a good laugh and mumble under your breath about old people and drugs. Your photo is really not best suited to giving specific ideas that would enhance the plant. So I give broad or simple equations to hopefully be general enough to help. Lets say that from the joint of the small stem to bottom of the tape on the main stem is 5 inches. I would probably cut 2 inches below the tape. That would hopefully be 3/5 up from the lower branch. Clear as mud? If you are uncomfortable with those recommendations, don't do it. Go with your blue tape. I'm personally not fond of long, same diameter stems. The bottom 1/3 of that stem looks about the same. Why have a stem like a giraffe's neck if you can have the neck of a mature bull in his prime? I want taper. It gives the illusion of of size and of a age, even on a seedling. Or makes a bull look twice as mean. I don't do pencil neck geeks. :-) Whatever you choose, have fun with it and that's no bull. Comments (6)Good AM Ostrich - WOW!!! I'm not as picky about the size of blooms as much as the ability to hold her head up proudly! I'd take both of course - I've had to stake up & corral ES#1 - the multi-pastel- she's only 2.5' tall. How small is small blooms? F&E also just 2.5 tall (more compact) has less blossoms about 10 (perhaps small clusters are forming) & really huge, I think (8x10") but able to hold her head up (goes into wilts but never arches. BB has large/plentiful blossoms & has sturdier limbs like F&E. Would pruning ala George's method thicken the ES's limbs or will age, eventually do it w/ cotton seed mill's help? BTW - my tradescantia is quite an 'invader' here, I'm surprised anything can crowd him - I've had to move, corral & thin - got himself tight as an eggroll now in his corral!!! Can't wait to see what you did, lately in your Kidney Isle. That's usually what I do while waiting for bushes to fill-out & grow ... Columbine is a favorite for temps - 'love their foliage & Lavender for wafts of fragrance; annuals too - Verbenas, Lantanas (of course Impatience in shades) to invite Hummers!
