Comments (13)There are plenty of Salvia growers but you might want to rethink using them for cutflowers. They're not the best for that purpose; they "shatter" quickly. Take a look at some of these: CALIFORNIA NATIVES FOR CUTTING For flowers, foliage and/or berries Arctostaphylos MANZANITA Artemisia californica CALIFORNIA SAGEBRUSH Bloomeria crocea GOLDEN STARS Brodiaea elegans HARVEST BRODIAEA Carpenteria californica ÂElizabeth BUSH ANEMONE Cercis occidentalis, C. o. Comments (8)You could select a species of tree that is not wind pollinated, which as others mention includes almost all trees with showy flowers. Wind-pollinated plants (including trees) have usually inconspicuous, small flowers and produce a ton of light, wind-borne pollen. They rely on sheer pollen volume and lucky wind currents to carry pollen to the female of the species. Oaks, pines, and many others fall into this category. Many other trees use insects or birds to carry pollen from the male to the female. These trees have conspicuous flowers, produce lots of nectar to attract the animal pollinator, and have heavier, sticky pollen that is not picked up and carried by the wind, therefore cannot cause allergies. Any tree with showy or fragrant (fragrant to attract insects) flowers would fall into this category, and there are lots of them....See MoreMeyer Lemon Tree Not Producing
Comments (27)I planted a lemon tree from a seed. I went to a green house and purchased the correct potting soil for citrus and food. My plants are 2 years old and not produced so much as a flower as yet:( They are in like 6 inch pots, but planted close to the top and are now about 3 feet high. I have cut them back, severely, the first year, and this spring I have cut them back again. I have seen some post mentioning doing something with the roots, cutting the older ones off? I water them when they dry out and they get afternoon sun in the winter and are out with my hot pepper plants in the green house in the late spring and than are totally outside in the sun from July till September. I'm at a loss. What can I do to force flowering and production of a few lemons?...See MoreJust Noticed Some Seed Pods : )
Comments (19)Hello Everyone, Hi Jen, The Super Round is still blooming and i have started to cut the leaves off of the trees. I have left the inflos on the ones still blooming and to my delight, I have spotted another seed pod on my Lani!!! Im so happy about this. It is quite small, but i can see it!! LOL!!! The J-105 has lost its scent! Im just lucky to still have the remaining blooms. The cool nights have really played a part in the way they smell. Great to look at, but not much of a fragrance in any of the blooms now. The rock collecting has taken three years!!! He has picked up the rocks from the rivers while hunting and has even had my son involved in the collection of the large stones! This was his idea several years back and he has always wanted to do this. LOL...i guess that is why he comes home without much for the freezer !!! : ) He has fun with the boys and loves the outdoors and likes to be in the woods. Tina, Thank for the compliments too! Like i said to Jen, he does like to collect the rocks to build the wall. It seems every year when he adds and then takes it down, he needs more rocks!!! I can honestly tell you that im tired of building this wall. It has been up and down at least three times!!! But, he is a good man and he gets lots of good attention for all of the hard work!!! : ) Alex, Thank you for the compliments!!! I realy like the "Mock Orange" I have heard on the other forums that it is banned in Florida . Im glad that i have this cute little tree! Mike gave this little beauty to me and it had grown pretty quickly!! Ill watch to see if the flowers produce any seedpods. Hope you are doing well up north, sounds like the cold weather is coming. I have started getting everything together for the annual march for the trees!!! Imm going to post a pick from today, after trimming the trees.. sad day. : ( Take care, Laura in VB...See Moresarah_plants
