What is this seedling?

I feel like I got hoodwinked by a bad seed company. They're supposed to be Salvia coccinea. These are definitely not sage. So what are they? This was directly from the packet, soil fresh out of the bag, and kept inside.

Looks like Clarkia to me.

Neither Amaranth nor Pokeweed has opposite foliage.

I don't think we have a rose of Sharon nearby but I'll look at the neighbors yard too. This is the first year I've had this garden. I just made it this spring and it's filled with a truckload of aged compost. Suppose the seeds could have been in the compost but I've never had this issue before. The seedlings are all right near the zinnias but not near other areas of the garden. Makes me wonder if there were other seeds in that Zinnia packet.

Huh - just noticed you can see the tip of some flowers from the nearest crepe myrtle in the far right-hand corner of my pic. I'm thrilled to think I have a freebie crepe myrtle. A truly miracle plant through unbearably hot summers here in OK. A real workhorse that blooms all summer long until frost for not much effort. And they are beautiful!

Yes! Thanks! Tilia species... they are Linden Tree seedlings I never would have guessed!...Jay, you and another guy on National Gardening Assoc. both said the same thing and I have a huge old Linden tree in my backyard. (photo below) and ... Ken_Adrian I agree if I had seen the first set of true leaves it sure would have helped. Those frilly cotyledon leaves really led me down the wrong path trying to guess, even with this huge tree in my garden LOL!

So I would not have been hoodwinked, I'd be blessed! That is not something that grows in my area naturally, so they will have given me seeds to something I normally wouldn't even buy? I'll keep going, let's see what happens when it flowers.

I appreciate the answer. And it explains why I just absolutely couldn't peg it. I've never grown fuchsia from seed.

Note my change of opinion. Fuchsia and Clarkia are in the same family. I decided Fuchsia from seed wouldn't have grown that fast and also lacks the reddish mid rib. https://garden.org/plants/photo/224425/

I also don't have clarkia seed, so it still has to be from the provider. It is something I have thought about growing, so I'm still happy. We'll see

Already in the ground, because it looks like it's a cool weather thing, and I live where it's hot and humid. All the cool weather things are already in the ground 🤞🏻
