Would love some suggestions for this flowerbed...
Comments (15)I sure am going to have fun planning this bed all winter! More great suggestions to look up. Thank you! Lilies are going on my list Sierra! Especially after "oohing" and "aahing" over everyone's wonderful lilies in the weekly update threads. I've been thinking about the soaker hose too. Mentioned it to DH earlier this year. Definately worth further investigating (ie, planning how to get them through all the beds!) Glen, I do that too! MY DD & I love to go on our "Garden Walks" as we call them. At nights we decide which way to walk based on which gardens we want to see again or see the progress being made. Or just to compare how my stuff is doing compared to others in the neighbourhood! "Ok, it must be the weather this year. Look their's is doing the same thing as mine. Phew, I feel better now." LOL...See MoreFall swap: some thoughts for the Suggestion Box
Comments (21)Fall MTPS Date Bama week! Oct. 21st. If I can make the ultimate sacrifice then so can everybody else. Hohenwald has their October Fest the weekend of the 14th, UT's only open date in October, and Jan says that the place shuts down and the streets are full of yard sales or something. Anyway, "The Third Saturday In October" will be our fall swap date. Do you know how much this hurts me? I'd rather take a written beating over the spring swap every day from now til then than miss getting to see UT beating Bama!!! Oh well, I'm a dedicated Swap Nazi I reckon. Comments (10)I like the idea of painting ceiling same as walls. Hosenemesis, there would be less strips than you described. BUT, I agree that with white tile, than color, than white ceiling, it might be stripy. That has been my thought too. I tried white trim and color walls as a sample in my kitchen remodel last year and it looked like a circus tent! My rooms are small and one can never get far enough away or between the door frames to have a nice ratio of trim vs wall color. I solved the problem in the kitchen by painting the trim as the walls and I love it. Prairiegirlz5, you illustrate a very glamourous bath! Sounds lovely. This bath will have a bit of glam but overall it has to function as a frequently used toilet for my farmer husband and others that may be working or visiting. I do want it to look sort of like the early 20th century and similar to my kitchen as it is just off from the kitchen. Now, I think I may have to alter the color plan. I yanked a bit of my remnent soapstone out of the shed to take a look and " :O these colors aren't going to work!" Tile pattern will stay the basic pattern but the listello may be tiny running bond so I can get a good matched white and stay in budget. I could go with a Ming green listello but I don't want a strip of color. The slate floor will stay, as will the soapstone. But what color do I paint the walls? Did someone above say light green? I may have to go that direction because the veining in the soapstone is green! I was thinking that there was more white veining. It pays to keep your materials close at hand throughout the process, not hidden away and counting on memory. The paint that I used in my kitchen was BM Titanium and it looks fabulous with another soapstone I have there. I just wanted a more ocean-y feel to the colors in the BR. Any thoughts are welcome....See MoreWould love thoughts on these plans
Comments (10)Add to everything that was said so far: Your pantry is so far from the kitchen rendering it almost useless. Unless you need that much exercise every time you cook a meal. ;) I'm trying to understand why you'd want the kitchen island to open to the living room when you have a dining room and keeping room. I would think those three should be near one another. Additionally your kitchen layout is very poorly laid out. Instead of the master bedroom being on the corner so it gets windows and breezes from two directions you instead have your master closet taking prime real estate. You have all sorts of bumps and jogs that add nothing to the overall layout or look but will add big bucks to the cost to build. I hate to say it like this, but it's almost as if rooms were stuck wherever they would "fit" without thought to where they'd be best. May I offer some advice after having worked with a drafter myself to get my house plans right? If you do not have a design background, I very strongly suggest you instead go find an architect who can create a house that will work well for you. A draftsman does not have the design background to understand all the relationships and it's obvious from the above drawing. The only reason I was able to create a good design for my house was because I do have a design background and the good folks here on this forum were the best in helping me to get my house to a point where it works well....See MoreEd Kriskywicz Construction Design, Inc.
