Young Cowart Muscadine Vine Trunk Split, Now What??

Hello,
I have a Young Cowart Muscadine Vine that has experienced a split trunk. I planted this vine late last summer and it is probably not even pencil thick. The trunk has split about 2.5 feet from the ground, looking good above and below the split. It is still a bit early and I'm not really seeing a ton of life from the vine. Now, I know we are a bit far North in Mid TN for Muscadines and I am betting this split is due to cold damage. However, I know a few people that have had success, hence giving it a try. Should I go ahead and prune the vine below the split or wait for some sign of life and see what happens. I tried to take a picture, but the split was too small to show up clearly. Thanks of any advice or info.
