You probably already have seen this advice if you've read similar posts in this thread, but the single best thing you can do to "futureproof" for anything in the foreseeable future is to run conduit to each room and between floors. This will let you put in whatever cables you want now -- and upgrade them later -- or go wireless as much as you want and run cables later.

You'll have to judge if you want to spend the $$ on running enough cable and speakers for surround sound. Wired Ethernet is faster than wireless in most instances, but much of that can depend on your provider; what you get from them may not be substantially faster than what wireless can provide. Wired Ethernet is an easy choice for game machines and streaming devices which won't move around, but you probably will not want to use a tablet or laptop with an Ethernet cable hanging from it. And landline phone wire? If you have conduit, I'd ignore it completely right now. It does not seem to be a high-demand item these days.

The house is going to be 4300 square feet. I will probably have my main home theater and audio setup in the great room. I will probably have that room wired for surround sound and place the receiver in a built in home theater cabinet along with my HDTV receiver. I will also have the outside area wired for speakers. I'd like to have a dedicated area for my home networking setup that is out of the way. Perhaps a wall mounted system that has the modem and a router and from there I can do home run wiring to whatever room I want to run the Cat -6. I would also like to have this be the place where to TV cable originates and also do home runs to all of the rooms where I want cable. I like the idea of using Cat-6 for a land phone line if I ever wanted one (doubtful.) How does this sound?

It sounds OK to me, but I'm no expert. I did my house my way because I couldn't find experts 15 years ago; things are much better now. I am hopeful one of the Pro readers of this forum will add their thoughts.

Cat 6 is way overkill for a phone line - cat 5 or 5e will suffice on that front. Typical advice is that you should over-wire your current needs now while the walls aren't covered up. I'm going against the grain on that one. First off, running cable is expensive - depending on your area around $100 per cable per termination - so those costs add up quick. Second, every day more and more things become wireless, and fewer are wired - even DirecTV I believe has wireless cable boxes (though I wouldn't necessarily recommend those).

I think an RG6 (that's co-axial for cable/satellite/antenna) and a Cat 6 are sufficient for most TV areas - perhaps you'll want another Cat 6 if you heavily use a streaming box and a gaming console.

I'm not following the cable situation - you want to have all the various boxes in a central location, and then just have a wire from there to each TV? Problem there is that 1) you'll need some type of IR repeater to get the signal down to the box. 2) carry HD signals over long distances is not optimal. There are ways to do it, but they are expensive.

Where is the source for the patio speakers? Do you want some sort of whole house audio system (you indicated as such with the Sonus)? What about alarm system and/or home automation - cause you'll need to pre-wire for that as well.
