Soapstone backsplash just behind sink? Dumb?
Comments (8)Which color pulls did you want to use? I think the ones you've selected would look nice in an oil-rubbed bronze finish, but I'm not sure I like the other options. And I misunderstood the question about the backsplash. I now realize you want to run it ONLY behind the sink, not for the full length of the counter run. I think you should do a mockup of the look to see if it suits you. Most of the pics I find with an extra-tall bs behind the sink have the short 3-4" bs behind the rest of the counter. Why don't you mock it up with cardboard? If you get some corrugated cardboard, and maybe spray paint it black or charcoal, you can tack it up to the wall and see if you like it behind the sink alone, or want to blow the 450 and get the short bs piece too. Keep in mind that if you choose the sink-only option you can probably also change your mind later and get short bs pieces of the same type of soapstone, if you have a stone yard nearby that offers precut but not installed soapstone. They only put those backsplash pieces in with silicone caulk, so if you have the option of buying a precut piece, you can install it yourself. So whatever your choice, it's not necessarily unchangeable....See MoreBacksplash Help for Creamy white cabinets, soapstone...
Comments (19)Bestyears, My cabinets were painted in the factory and called antique white, but I can tell you that it is a near perfect match to BM's Marble White OC34. Thanks for the photo, this is all so helpful. I am in the process of calling marble yards and getting pictures sent to me, and saw some in person. I really love the largest tile in my photos as I feel that the deep charcoal vein and warm tan veins, with the clear white background is most complementary to my kitchen. Finding that is proving to me most difficult. Makes me think that subway or marble mosaic is a much easier choice. But then again I have waited this long to find the right thing... I am so grateful for all the ideas and help you all have given me. I was on the building forum a ton about 5 years ago when we built our house and I could not have done it without all the wonderful support, ideas and knowledge! Comments (14)I'm almost finished with a kitchen remodel due to a water leak. I got new cabinets and appliances, the granite was reused. I didn't care whether or not I kept the same backsplash but the insurance said it wasn't necessary to have it replaced. So when they installed my new cabinets, to make them level, they were running higher (above the bottom of the lowest tile) so they took off the lowest row of tile. They explained that once the granite was reinstalled, it wouldn't look right to put something back in that area because you'd see how it runs uphill (or downhill) so we tore off the entire backsplash. I just had the cheap white 3"x6" subway tile from lowes, and I like it so that's what I'm having done again. But I'm soooooo glad that we tore it all out and re-tiling the backsplash. It will look so much better. It's getting done tomorrow. I personally would rather have the backsplash redone than to go with the 3" piece. JMHO BTW the insurance paid for a new backsplash since the granite couldn't be installed exactly where it was before and I got $1100.00 for a $300 backsplash :)...See MoreBacksplash behind stove - 2 options - opinions wanted
Comments (5)This is almost exactly like my old kitchen... too funny. But this is sort of the look we would have, except we would have no 6 inch base of the counter top material around the edge, just our back splash. My concern is the tumbled marble tiles may be too porous for use behind the stove, and if they stain, then it's a real pain to clean. Quarts on the other hand would be very easy and would act as a sort of "feature" behind the stove. Keep in mind also that I do not have a hood, just an OTR microwave with ventilation....See Morecpartist
