How good are you at telling the difference between a legit website and a fake or phishing one.

I got 12 out of 14. I was surprised - I was pretty sure of my answers for all 14. Glad to know!

I agree with ravencajun about labeling them as junk before deleting from your Inbox: that is helpful. I only need to do this infrequently though, as the Hotmail filters seem to correctly place this stuff in the Junk folder about 99% of the time.

ilmbg, when you are logged in to your yahoo mail, you should see "Options", (on mine it is in the right upper corner), choose that and then go to "General Preferences". At the very bottom there is the choice of "go to the next message" or "go back to the original folder". You will also see a choice under "Folders/Special Search Results" to have all unsolicited incoming e-mail to go directly to the "Bulk", aka, "Spam" folder.

If you were to Google...squaretrade warranty....you'd see enough info to see that Squaretrade is the warranty and since you did make a purchase of a tablet, I think it is legit and not a phishing attempt. Walmart obviously has your email address since you purchased it online and they passed it along to Squaretrade. What I get out of this , however, is that even though your PAID FOR A WARRANTY you don't HAVE A WARRANTY until you download and install their software. If this was not clear to you at time of purchase, maybe you can dispute the charge if you want to. My experience is that extended warranties are more often than not useless...but to each his/her own.

Phish is an Internet scam designed to trick the recipient into revealing credit card, passwords, social security numbers and other personal information to individuals who intend to use them for fraudulent purposes. The scam is known as "phishing" and the communications are sent to appear to look as if they come from reputable companies. The e-mails often instruct the recipient to verify or update account information by requesting a reply to his e-mail with updated information, or by providing the recipient with a link to a website where the new information may be entered. Anyone who receives such an email should not respond to it, or click on any links provided, but should contact the company who purportedly sent the notice, to inform them of the scam.

10 out of 14, but I wasn't paying enough attention to the 'https' vs 'http'. I'm fairly careful about signing in or even clicking on links--it occurred to me that the 'get started' link might be suspect, but I took a chance after reading Suzieque's reply.

I got them all right, the only one I questioned was twitter because I have never used it so not familiar with the appearance and the url did have twitter.com but the rest of the url looked very hinky to me so I went with phish which was correct. This is why I never allow shortened or altered url in my browsers. Looking at the full url is essential. I also never use any of the services to create a short url.

I missed the Twitter one because I misread the URL--good lesson in vigilance! If you're too bleary to take the test, you're too bleary to go to new websites. :)

Not hitting a rock in 12 dives of 14 ... is O.K. ... if you stop at 12 ... and they were all of the non-rock variety.

Otherwise ... possible paraplegic.
