jane, I'm not sure what you were doing for hours. I just spent 10 seconds to type a google search and found multiple legitimate sources that seem to answer your question. I don't have an iphone so I wasn't able to do a dry run as a test for you.

Did you try that yourself? What did you find?

One thing to anticipate when hardware and software changes come along is that core tasks are always supported but the way to do them may be different or look different. What matters is the capability, not the appearance.

When I go to 'My PC' I see the Iphone but when I double click all I get is the storage on the phone.

Then you just need to open up the storage and the photos should all be displayed inside there or in the storage subfolders. After that, select the ones you want and copy them over just like you would from any other drive.

Kidzu, of course I tried that. What I get are a thousand little tiny boxes. When I click on them I get one photo that is so small I can't tell if its worth keeping. It won't enlarge. Plus, each photo is in a separate box so it requires clicking on these tiny boxes one at a time. I have over 1000 photos on my phone and many I do not want on my computer.

I tried following the directions from Google. I can't tell what is what. When I plug in the phone a screen comes up full of photos with check marks. I can't tell if I'm looking at the phone or explorer. The only heading on the page is 'photo collection.'

Over 1200 photos all containing check marks. If I click 'clear' and try to individually check the photos I want, it still imports all the photos. It states that the photos will be saved in a folder under my name. I'll be dammed if I can find them.

I've had it with Win 10. This is ridiculous. Before I could copy what I wanted into the folders I wanted. Now I can't tell if I'm looking at the pics on the phone or on Windows. There is no information. I deleted multiple copies of the same photos and they keep reappearing.

The system sucks. I simply want to copy manually what I want to copy and save in the folders I choose. Stupid, dumb and typical Microsoft!

Jane, thanks for your post. I have many computer with OSs ranging from XP to Win7 - they all behave the same way, as you reported. I am considering getting a new PC with Win10 and am concerned that I cannot get my photos of my iPhone the same way as I did. I don't want to use iTunes!

There are several ways to transfer photos, and it shouldn't be a big deal. I don't know how you've done this before, but here is one of the ways, and it's pretty simple:

Thanks for the video. A couple of questions: it appears as if all the photos taken on the same date are put in a folder with that date; is that correct? What names are given to the photos? When I copy them from the DCIM folder to my Win7 computer, the photos have names like IMG_1234. When I asked the Apple Genius people, they say that the image names are generated by my computer, not by the iPhone. Since I move the photos around between different folders and different computers, I want to make sure the actual JPG files are unaltered, with the same name, date, and time information maintained. When I transfer photos to a Mac, it appears to load them into iPhoto, and the name, date, and time information are NOT maintained.

When I copy over my photos periodically from my iPhone to my PC, it puts them all in whatever folder I want and names them IMG_xyz, where "xyz" is a sequential number. It doesn't install them into individual folders by date, but the date and time details carry over and I can choose to display that in my file view. As far as locations and more specific names, it may not carry over, but I don't know for sure, as it's not something I've bothered to investigate. I'm not an expert on this; I just want to be able to move photos around and have had no problems doing so.

It may be that, no matter what you do, and what computer systems you use, you can't have everything exactly the way you would like...:

I bought a USB bluetooth device for my computer. Cost me $20 and plugs into a USB port since my computer didn't come with Bluetooth. Then I just use bluetooth to transfer all my photos from my android devices to my computer and it works nice. If I have a lot I just leave it and let it go and when I come back later they are all transferred. I would think you could do the same with an Iphone. I like that I can be upstairs in bed and send stuff from my android devices downstairs the the computer. Mary
