I'm going to put a turkey breast in the oven in a little while, not entirely sure what's going to go with it. My neighbor brought over a still warm loaf of bread he made last night and half of that is left (he makes a very rustic free form grainy bread, is teaching himself to bake ;)) Since the oven will be on I may put in potatoes to bake. Whatever vegetable I can find in my freezer, I think my salad fixins are getting a little tired - the little that is left. I didn't want to shop until tomorrow and haven't gone out to the store today.

Met a friend for Mexican for lunch so will probably just have soup for dinner.

Beef stew and biscuits!

As usual, so many good sounding foods being served tonight. I had leftovers. Piece of salmon, chicken vegetable soup, had some perfection salad leftover from my Meals on Wheels lunch so I added a couple of spoons of cottage cheese to that.

I tried a recipe for Beer bread and we quite enjoyed it. I borrowed a can of beer from my friend, and on the weekend we bought a case of non-alcoholic beer from the grocery store, for this purpose. I made a loaf on the weekend.

Tonite I made Stroganoff/Swedish meatballs with a sauce of beef broth, grainy mustard, worcestershire and sour cream. Served over egg noodles with a chunk of beer bread. Beer bread is good with savoury dishes, it's terrific with chili and stews.

I took a picture of dinner, but didn't notice the steam clouding the lens. Picture it brighter! :-)

jasdip, that looks delicious. We had pan-fried, breaded chicken strips, steamed broccoli, and angel hair pasta. I marinated the chicken, then shook the strips in a bag of flour until coated on all sides, so I don't if know that really qualifies as breading.

Left over pizza made with a wheat flour crust. Peanut butter cookies for dessert.

It does look good jasdip. My neighbor and I went to lunch for the boiled crawfish special. They were some of the best I have had in a while. They were very large and perfectly seasoned. It came with a boiled red potato and a piece of corn on the cob. Big lunch. For dinner I heated up some fresh made ravioli and Alfredo sauce. I just had a few my husband enjoyed the rest.

It's hard to make Tuesday, aka sandwich night, very exciting....(LOL) We had ham and pepper jack cheese grilled open-faced sandwiches, made on homemade gluten-free bread rounds (dill and onion flavored). Waldorf salad, homemade sweet potato chips, sliced pickled beets, and for dessert we had Simple Banana Cookies (best use for one ripe banana I know of) I baked Tuesday morning. This time I added cacao nibs, mini chocolate chips, and chopped pecans.

I made a pot of Swedish meatballs to put in the freezer for a party next week and we took a few out for tonight's dinner. Had pan roasted potatoes, green beans and a cucumber salad along with it.

Had planned over casserole.

Years ago in college my brother tried to make beer bread by following our mother's recipe. However the recipe had a couple of specific ingredients and steps that he felt "couldn't possible make a difference". One was that you should use a can of warm beer, but he only ever bought bottle beer so he used one of those. It also said the ingredients should be mixed in a glass bowl with a wooden spoon, but his college apartment kitchen only had a metal mixing bowl and a sturdy plastic spoon.

Well, some part of those specifications was clearly necessary or he did something else wrong, because the bread rose not-at-all. It was thick and dense and a little chewy, about the consistency of brownies. You might think beer-flavored "brownies" might be a hit with male college students, but no, not so much.

Bob, I think beer bread is purposely dense. The original recipe said to spread it in a 9x13 baking dish, and drizzle melted butter over top. I did that, and it was very similar to a focaccia type bread.

This time I made it in a smaller pan 7x10 and the bread is thicker, yet still dense. We just pull off a section that we want. Both times I use canned beer.
