Supper Time on Tuesday!
Comments (14)I have decided "Da*n the torpedoes, Four bells, Captain Drayton, go ahead. Jouett, full speed."! or more commonly known as da*n the torpedoes full speed ahead! with my son's very limited meal repertoire. We had Chicken Kiev, and he liked it. He said he might choose it again, but he would change the spices. It was a really low key butter with only parsley, chives and lemon. Maybe he wanted chilis and red pepper flakes? Might not be too bad to spice it up some. I'm thinking pork tenderloin with bourbon cream sauce tonight. That'd really push him. He says he doesn't like gravy or sauces. How can anyone live in the South and not eat gravy? I'm so ashamed (not really)!...See MoreSupper Time on Tuesday!
Comments (22)Really hit the spot. I've been thinking about those salmon cakes for a week.To make a basic Hawaiian macaroni salad, you don’t need a recipe; just follow these guidelines: The pasta: Cook 1 pound elbow macaroni (for really local style, cook until soft and fat, but you can go al dente if you prefer). The flavoring: Stir in ¼ cup very finely grated onion. Not minced, chopped or sliced—grated. It should be liquidy (this is how they do it at Diner’s, a local eatery in Kalihi). The mayo: At least 2½ cups for real local style. But there are no rules, so use less if you like. Or more. The add-ins: Carrots, watercress, celery, hard-boiled eggs, pickle relish (try some frozen, thawed peas) whatever suits you. The finale: Salt and pepper, to taste. Stir well; refrigerate. * I don't use pickle relish. I add some grated carrots, dill pickle (diced fine) some grated cheddar cheese and sliced black olives....See MoreSupper Time on Tuesday!
Comments (19)My husband came home this afternoon to move a big winch that he had sold. He borrowed a trailer to haul it on, and it was a wreck....most of the bed rotted out or missing. Had four tires....but one of those was missing. The winch weighed about 1000 lb....big like for a Gulf shrimp boat. He managed to get it loaded and then bottomed out trying to drive out. I pulled him out with my truck and then when he went over the wooden culvert at the front gate, pulled some of that up too and it got stuck under the trailer. I say all this to say that it makes me a nervous wreck to help him because he doesn't know the word "stop" and he takes too many chances. Then I had to follow him with my flashers on because the trailer had no tail lights. Once he got it unloaded, had to follow him back to where he had picked up the trailer. It was well past dark by then. He went back to his boat to go shrimping in the morning and I came on home. I stopped at Sonic and got a double meat hamburger for me and one with just meat and bread, for Gertie, my dog, that rode along with me....See MoreSupper Time on Tuesday!
Comments (23)Egg fu yung!! Yum! That is my most favorite Asian dinner item........not bad for brunch, either :-) I have made it several time myself but it never quite matches the deliciousness of the Chinese take-out kind. Unfortunately, the only decent Chinese restaurants in the vicinity are at least a half hour drive and a ferry ride away. I will often pick up an order to go when I am over on that side. Oddly, we have all manner of great ethnic restaurants where I live - Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Greek, Italian, Mexican by the bucketful - but NO Chinese!! What's up with that?? I fixed spaghetti and meatballs with jarred marinara and frozen meatballs :-) Fast and easy but more leftovers than I need!...See Moremama goose_gw zn6OH
