Okay, so I was starting to think I could do fine with this plant. I really 'need' low maintenance as much as I can and when I make a mistake...like taking 3 little Lily of the Valley pips from a neighbor [boy was that a mistake!]...it makes a LOT of work for me. The 'gazillions' of seedlings, I have heard before and that is what has me a little worried. That and the fact that the seedlings are so tiny and the color blends in and is hard to see. I am not always on top of things and I don't want something to get away from me. I just spent the past two years clearing out some plants that got away from me so I am a little sensitive to that right now. Could this plant be something I could control with deadheading? I think I would really enjoy a 'little bit' of this plant. Thanks :-)

VFT seedlings can be left to grow without going dorment for a year or two, after that they will need a restperiod or slowly decline over time. If you keep your plants outside or in an unheated greenhouse they will automaticly go dorment when temperatures go down and days become shorter. The soil in your pot should not be allowed to dry out, make sure not to use tap water(cheapest would be rainwater),deminralised water or distilled water is also ok. As for your sundews, that would depend on what kind you have.

Dirt can have many meanings. The dirt in my area certainly is not loam but mostly clay. We have to really work to get loamy soil. Loam drains well, holds water and is loose, dark, and airy. Any ingredients should be free of disease. Dirt is not a good choice for potting mixes. Most professionals use a variation of the "Cornell Mix" Peat, perlite, vermiculite, lime. It is free of disease (sterile), drains well, holds water, and has plenty of air pockets. Sand makes the mix heavy so perlite is substituted where weight might be an issue. Leaf mould is more variable than peat ie the quality can be inconsistent from batch to batch. Composts in general can add its own problems as outlined in the link in my last post.
