Go for it! - I planted my seedlings last year, got wonderful blooms and the same verbenas have started blooming again (they overwintered well) since beginning of April - I think they are worth it. I didn't notice any reseeds - although I hear they do reseed - I would love lots of reseeds! Carrie

This plant is outstanding. It has become a perennial in my yard. It keeps to its area very nicely. Not really any maintenance at all, except sometimes the bloom spikes flop and need to be pruned back or contained.

I have not had it reseed at all. It is in full flowering glory right now. This one is hard to beat in my opinion.

agree - pictures do not do it justice. Mine is so purple and vibrant and neighbors are in awe of it because they don't sell them in too many places - Carrie

If you have a formal garden, the reseeding may not be to your liking. But, in my cottage garden, they are simply charming. I saw this plant happily wandering through the beds at Great Dixter in England, and it never was obtrusive. It is light and airy and only compliments it's neighboring plants. I agree with "deep roots" - this one is hard to beat.

Thank you all. One last question....when it does reseed into an area that you prefer it not to be, is it easy to pull out, or do the roots spread underground?

I am so bad. I do too much clean up in the fall that I never see reseeds - so I can't answer your question but... i have a feeling that they are easy because I grow them from seed but someone else may be better experienced to answer your quesiton - Good luck - (go for it, it's worth it) Carrie

The seedlings are very, very easy to pull. It reseeds by the gazillions here but I still love it. I also have pretty good luck w/established plants overwintering.

Okay, so I was starting to think I could do fine with this plant. I really 'need' low maintenance as much as I can and when I make a mistake...like taking 3 little Lily of the Valley pips from a neighbor [boy was that a mistake!]...it makes a LOT of work for me. The 'gazillions' of seedlings, I have heard before and that is what has me a little worried. That and the fact that the seedlings are so tiny and the color blends in and is hard to see. I am not always on top of things and I don't want something to get away from me. I just spent the past two years clearing out some plants that got away from me so I am a little sensitive to that right now.

Could this plant be something I could control with deadheading? I think I would really enjoy a 'little bit' of this plant.

yes - if you deadhead you won't get seedlings the next year. At least here it is an annual - so the only way to get more is from the seeds that fall on the ground. I don't get a LOT of them- but a few always spring up - although , come to think of it - I haven't seen them yet this year, I'll have to take a closer look.
Last time I 'planted' some was 5 - 6 years ago.

I didn't mean to scare you away from VB, prairiemoon! Really, the seedlings are easily removed w/a swipe of a hoe/trowel, whatever. I don't let the many seedlings deter me at all, it really is a fabulous plant. Give it a whirl and you can always deadhead as pickles mentions.
