Curtain rod sources

It's been decades since I bought curtain rods, but I just ordered Pottery Barn's silk dupioni panels for 2 dining room windows and will need rods. The ones I like best are Restoration Hardware's Dakota line, but after I put the rods and all the necessary peripherals in a cart, I was shocked at the total. I realize there are cheaper options out there, but I'd like a style that would blend with Craftsman furniture and lighting. Everything else I see online looks cheap to me. Any suggestions for sources? I was thinking maybe I'd bite the bullet for the rod, brackets (yes, they are sold separately) and finials and then get the rings elsewhere, assuming I can find a similar finish, since those alone are $35 per set, and I need four sets!! I love the square finials, but they seem made to work only with RH's rods. I don't anticipate ever closing these curtains, and I want to hang them so that they don't cover the windows.

I've never spent big bucks when i've wanted thicker, heaftier rods, but instead have purchased closet dowell rods, in a large circumferance. It's sold by the foot, and in lenghts of 12', or maybe 14'. HD or Lowe's are both good resources.

I bought a bunch from Sierra Trading post-- wait for one of their 35% or 45% sales. I don't know what size I bought and they are still packed .. but the stock changes regularly. I'd just check them out and check back. I am pretty sure I paid less than $5/set on one of their discount sales.

I've recently gotten quotes for rods for my new house. Antique Drapery Rod Company has an excellent selection, fully functioning traverse rods, double decorative rods, an online consult to help you figure out all of what you need; and I know from experience in the business that their quality is top notch. But be prepared, so are their prices - top notch! Antique Drapery Rod The Finial Company is another one where you'll be able to get whatever you want, and it's high quality stuff. However their website is almost impossible to navigate and get what you want. You need a rep to help you decipher what elements you want, and it's equally as expensive. I'm assuming you want decorative rods so that you don't have to have a valance or a cornice board. If you're going to have a valance you can use a Kirsch Superfine rod, it's heavy enough to handle the length. There are lots of other companies out there, I'm just personally familiar with the above companies and know their quality, so feel fairly safe recommending them.

I prefer the cream also....I hope someone can come up with an idea for the vent...it's driving me batty! Do you close the drapes? If not, a bar cart? Plant? Small console? Let's put our collective brains together.. Now, you said you were doing a new chandelier. Do you have any ideas?

I bought these rods back home, before moving to Florida. I had a lot of windows and did not want to pay a fortune for them... couldn't afford to, actually, even if I wanted to. I bought them at the Christmas Tree Shop

It is a black rod that fits 44" to 108" and the square lamp post finials come with it, although they do twist off if you ever wanted to change them out. I also have the Spiral/birdcage rod

I'm about to order 2 more of them...the ones I have have been up for almost 6 years and they are goodlooking and sturdy... no different than any other rods I've seen

I'm in love with modern brass rods and quite a few of the modern rods. We have one with square finials that came from Lowe's. JoAnn Fabrics also has quite a few curtain rods.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up getting rods with square finials from JC Penney and rings from Bed Bath and Beyond. I spent about $130 total on these items, less than just the rings at RH. The quality is probably less but good enough. I noticed some small areas where the finish had already rubbed off, but it doesn't show now that they're installed. In case anyone besides me doesn't realize this, the clips on clip-on rings can be removed, at least on the ones I bought, and clip-ons are much easier to find.
