In looking for a longer rod, don't look in the dowel section. Longer decorative rods can be found in the decor section of Home Depot and plain, unpainted closet rods can be found in lumber. I would suggest going with a wider diameter rod and supporting it in the center.

You can purchase hooks for your pinch pleat drapes and as discussed earlier, where the hooks are placed on the drapes determines whether the rings show, or don't show. You will have to lower the rod if you use the pinch-pleat hooks.

You could frame wrapping paper or scrapbook paper...It will be more of a unified look if you keep it to one color (agree that different prints might make it a bit busy over there)...picture is just to show using one color, but you could go with asian inspired papers in the color you want to bring into the room. Is that Royal Albert china? If so, red might be nice...

It looks too long. Can you push it in a bit on each side? I love the white cut out ginger jars and they would be very nice and not compete with your colorful china. A group of 3 of those would be really nice. But you would need a larger tray and the table is large enough to need a larger tray anyway. What are you thinking for the prints? 8 is a large number so quite challenging. Bird prints? Asian prints? Architectural prints? I just think 4 prints is going to be way too much for your wall. But I can hunt around a bit for you.

Or you could try a ring or two on the other side of the bracket...and let it sit until the white one gets here so you can mull it over. But, as I've said in the past...to me, the floating rod thing just doesn't work no matter how popular it is...

That's a smashing size dining room you have--it could support a larger chandelier ;)

You could do this, too...(although I also love ginger jars and go on the hunt daily for my chinoiserie-ish dining room)

I wouldn't put the jars on a tray, personally....I would want them to stand alone...

I think the black rod looks good. If you decide on a white rod, you should get white rings. Black rings on a white rod will not look good.

Victoria about the rod, it's just personal preference. And, fwiw, it's perfectly okay to like what isn't recommended or to dislike what is. A lot of the time here I see folks visit who have a good idea, but then then they get persuaded away from it, which is sad, imho. You gotta do you, right?

PS not my dining room...just a pic I pulled off the web. That's an asian style birdcage and I just happened to see one on my local Craigslist that I'm considering...I like out of the ordinary things :)

What color would you like to use? Then maybe Flo's hunt can have some direction...

I think some simple Asian prints would look great with that China cabinet.

What about green? I'm having trouble finding sets of 8 in any color so you might have to get creative with some diy printing or a roll of Chinoiserie wallpaper and just cut out sections (don't try to center any one thing).

I must say that I agree with the floating drapery rod thing. I know that it is currently a trend, but it has always looked odd to me. But, that's just personal preference... Regarding prints on either side of the China cabinet, I feel that the sets of 4 on each side are pretty busy. You have a lot going on in the cabinet (it looks great edited!) and your chair style adds a lot of visual interest to the room. Once you replace the light fixture, that will add another layer of interest. I would suggest one larger-sized print on each side of the cabinet and choosing those prints in a quiet color pallet. Your dining room is lovely, and I think a 'less is more' approach will allow each element to shine more brightly.

Victoria - I think you are on the right track with one nice piece on each side of the china cabinet. However, the colors need to be subdued so they don't "fight" with the beautiful colors in the china cabinet and elsewhere in the room. I'm sure with that direction, we can find a number of options for you. bbl

The cranes are always nice. I would want to do a "mock up" for you, but I don't have time right now. Here are a couple more I found. I like these because they are more "solid" in color so they can play with your more detailed china patterns.

I see I've worked on this room before. This was one of my original renderings with a different chandelier and a large piece of Asian art on each side.
