Should I replace the sheetrock before replacing the backsplash?
Comments (8)We don't know yet what the sheet rock looks like as we haven't done any demo yet. My husband was picturing that mastic would cover things over well enough. I noticed you used the term adhesive rather than mastic, just like the installer. My husband is picturing tile held up with "adhesive," not mastic and is afraid that it will have bad adhesion long term. Our cabinets are in excellent condition so we thought we could just replace the back splash and counter tops. Now hubby is picturing having to have the cabinets taken down and put up, too. He anticipates that they won't be able to tape new sheet rock properly in just the back splash area unless the cabinets are removed, too. My husband was so amazed (shocked) by this that he didn't question him further, feeling that the installer was out of line. Of course, he is now asking around (other people) and even another contractor said he'd never heard of this. He said he could remove the tile with a hammer and chisel. I felt the tile installer (with 30 years experience, by the way) would be the one to listen to....See MoreWhat should I replace the green marble tile around my fireplace with?
Comments (17)Interesting. Can CLASSIC ever be 'dated'? Your room is fabulous. In the early 90's we put in gas fireplace in our basement. WE sooo wanted green as you have but were not brave enough and went more of a taupe and used green in the soft accessories. Blue and green are a classic color combo. I vote with ignore the nay sayers and save yourself the bother of 'fixing' what's not broke!!...See MoreWhat floor covering should I replace this carpet with?
Comments (5)Wood would seem like the obvious choice - either soid hardwood or engineered hardwood and either site finished or factory finished. However there isn't enough information on what the rest of the flooring on that level is. Typically one would have all flooring the same on a level except possibly the kitchen and foyer/entrance where one would have complementary flooring although the trend now is to have wood flooring in kitchens and entrances because the finishes are so durable....See MoreEngineered Hardwood Flooring being replaced - what ? Should I ask?
Comments (1)The install needs to be glue and nail. And you are REQUIRED to have a humidifier and maintain 30-60% humidity levels in the home. Or you will have shrinking and swelling of the wood, even with engineered. Dont let them usw stair nosings with flat planks. Full treads only....See Morestir_fryi SE Mich
