Lasagne Bed Question/slightly off topic
Comments (2)Building a lasagna bed over an existing planting of bulbs is, I'm afraid, not going to have a very satisfactory outcome. First, the initial layers of cardboard or newspapers are going to suppress the growth of whatever lies beneath -- ornamentals as well as weeds. How high are you going to build your bed? The bottom layer of cardboard/newspaper is not really essential if you layer the bed thickly enough with the other ingredients. If the bed is thick enough, weeds will be suppressed regardless of whether you lay paper down first. All bulbs have a maximum planting depth, so remember that you are steadily increasing their present depth with each layer you mound over them. Also, keep in mind that while you are effectively destroying existing weeds with your new bed, you are simultaneously creating a new & very fertile area for any weed seeds that may be dropped or blown in. Therefore, your final layer should always be a very healthy application of mulch of some sort. One final suggestion/warning, just in case you might be tempted: Avoid that landscape fabric stuff like the gardening curse that it is....See MoreOff Topic Question
Comments (5)Hi All, Just wanted to say thanks again for the suggestions. I settled for the following lemon dill sauce to accent the salmon phyllo purse: 1 3-ounce package cream cheese, softened 1/3 cup mayonnaise 2 tablespoons sour cream 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh dill Mixed the first five ingredients until smooth and then stirred in the dill. It made 2/3 cup and it was a huge success! Getting back on topic for this forum, I also put out a jar of my Chile Cranberry Sauce (made with the assistance of the good folks here) with the turkey. RAVE reviews! Just for fun, I printed dinner menus that sat on everyoneÂs plate when they sat down at the table. I know, a bit over the top and our friends think weÂre crazy but it did get them all fired up for dinner! IÂve attached it below. Habanero peppers for the cranberry sauce and leeks for the soup were from our garden and the garlic, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and turnip used were all grown within 5 miles of our home at a local farm. I need a bigger garden for next yearÂs dinner! LOL Overall, we made too much food but everyone had a full belly and a great time. After dinner, I sat back and was struck by how fortunate we were for the friends and bounty. Shortly thereafter, the size of the kitchen cleanup job struck me so I had another glass of wine and settled back into the spirit! LOL Hopefully, everyone else had a great Christmas as well. Comments (4)i just have finished researching this topic after months. I almost bought a bose, and they are good, but I ended up putting my own system together. I got a Denon AV reciver, two axiom outdoor speakers, and a wifi ipod dock. I can't wait to get it in. Both were shipped yesterday. The ipod dock will access my home network wirelessly and give me access to music on all of our computers in my home, and internet radio. As far as how many more speakers you can connect, that will depend on your reciever. What kind do you have? My new one has multi zone capabilities, which means that someone can be watching a movie in my living room and others can have the music blaring outside by the pool. I also will be purchasing a RC remote control so that I can control my reciever from my poolside. Try to go to this forum. There are as many audiophiles there to help you as there are pool experts here. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=88/ Check out the speakers section, home theatre in a box, or if you would rather a seperate reciever go to amps, recievers and processors. To me, my outdoor speakers are more important than inside just because I spend so much time out there and really want great sound.
