Frameless Shower Glass Mounting Options?
Comments (40)HI-I know this is an old thread but I am searching for a company in Pennsylvania to fabricate and embed the a 3 sided glass shower enclosure with one door into the granite sill. I have not found any who will take care of creating the channel in the granite. So many opinions from different installers!! "exposed channel is cleaner looking" "clips are cleaner looking" "exposed channel will pit" "clips will get mildew in the silicone" "recessed channel will get dirty".....I am wondering how liamrperry's shower glass turned out? Any problems?Thanks....See MoreWhat thickness glass for my steam shower frameless glass surround?
Comments (12)Talked to my tile installer and he was able to provide this to me. This is a residential steam shower and not a continuous use shower (which is what you need the DS for). See below for KERDI info. I’m a structural engineer and ran a calculation on a 10.5 ft 1/2” panel and it worked fine. The 3/8” was not working - BUT we were very conservative with our assumption (assumed spanned full height and will actually be supported on 4 sides). Looking for others who have done something this tall...trying to avoid a much deeper structural analysis to prove it will work and get installed feed-back. What did you use? Comments (31)Mie0782, what’s the advantage of a slider over an awning? Or were you thinking vinyl vs. fiberglass? We installed vinyl about 15 years ago and they have performed well, but now that we’re changing out windows with this remodel, I want to upgrade them. I’m also more concerned about environmal toxins today, so I’m trying to avoid vinyl if I can (creates toxins during manufacturing and also if the house catches on fire. i live in CA and though my town isn’t considered high risk, the last few years have seen unprecedented wildfires so you never know. Even if I’m not exposed to the chemicals personally, I’d rather avoid putting them into the environment if I can)....See MoreScratched glass mosaic tiles on shower wall - please help!
Comments (23)It sounds like you’ve received some good advice re: polishing your tiles. I’m just posting a comment to let you know how beautiful your glass tile looks! I actually have this tile saved as one of my options for the wall over my vanity behind my mirrors. Q - is there any natural light in your bathroom? If so, would you mind taking a photo during the day so I can see how the tile looks with natural light? I would really appreciate it. Also - and I apologize if this seems like a strange question - did you pick out the tile or did a female? I’m asking this question in order to prove a point with my significant other. I own my house (no mortgage) - so, when we decided to live together, I didn’t want to sell it and buy something else with a mortgage. However, I originally built this house with my ex-husband - so, I’m remodeling MANY rooms in order to make it “new” (even though my ex didn’t really give much input into the house when we built it - and I only shared this house with my ex for about 4 years - quite awhile ago). I am trying to be considerate by not making anything “too feminine” - this tile seems like a good choice for that. My significant other didn’t say that the tile is too feminine - but I‘m not exactly sure whether he believes that or not! I definitely don’t think it’s feminine - I think it’s an attractive option for my accent wall. His suggestions have been simply TOO BORING! I don’t want a sterile looking all gray/white/black bathroom. I do want to be considerate - but it still is my house so . . . LOL! One other Q - what did you choose for your vanity/wall paint/flooring? Thanks!...See Moremillworkman
