Leu Gardens annual plant sale

It's that time again. Leu Gardens will host its annual plant sale this coming Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13. If you are a gardener in Central Florida this is a Must-Go-To event. There will be over 50 vendors there selling mostly plants, but also other garden accessories.

Leu Gardens is simply gorgeous any time of year, but the spring blooms make this a special time to visit and admission is free for the plant sale.

I always find something new. Last year I found a pink firespike. I wasn't really sure that they existed until I saw one. I now have two large plants that are in full bloom--very pretty. I concentrate on butterfly and hummingbird plants and there are always a bunch there to purchase. Unfortunately, this year I haven't seen a hummer in something like three months. The annual migration from Mexico and Central America is now in full swing and those of us in Northern and Central Florida should be seeing Ruby-throateds any day.

Hi Tom

Hope to see you at the Leu Gardens and I know that you are going to be at the butterfly plants.

I am ready to see all the plants and ornaments, once the cart is full we leave, that is the agreement, lol.

I've always wanted to go to this, but now it's pointless except just to see Leu Gardens. Still, won't make it this year. Maybe next year.

I went to Leu today and was really impressed with the camellia show. Amazing blossoms - some WAY larger than I have ever seen. The camellias throughout Leu are in full bloom too and it was a treat to walk through the gardens in this beautiful sunny, but cool, weather. As a bonus, Robert Bowden's rose garden is also in full bloom and could not have been prettier. If you can get to Leu tomorrow, go! Kate

Hi from your occasional SC poster. I went to the sale at Leu Gardens this past weekend. WOW. I had also come down for the February plant sale in Vero Beach. Even though some of the vendors do both shows, they had distinctly different plants. I plan on attending both next year again. This time I found a hardy olive tree and some wonderful large birds nest ferns. I also broke down and purchased a bottle palm at a Lowes. I had seen these on my February trip and after researching it, decided it was worth having to schlep it inside for a few months each year. Had a lovely visit with a woman and her son while eating lunch under the trees. She mentioned another plant show in the fall in Apopka. I may have to check that out if it's like these other 2 fabulous days I spent this spring in your state! Thanks to all who offered advice on nurseries to stop at. Melissa
