Please show me your small living/family room
Comments (42)I like the idea of the TV being on the wall opposite the window and the couch up against the window, but I wonder if it will be a problem since that is sort of a hallway area. I guess the other problem I would run into is where to put the cable box etc. I will do a little mock up of it today or do a computer drawing to see how it will all look. Painting the trim around the window can be done, I will have to fight with DH, since he loves it and says that it mirrors the window trim in the kitchen. @loribee and @oceanna I have taken a look at the gallery. Lots of great ideas with colors etc. I just keep thinking 'if only I had an extra 2 feet of living room space . . . ' Of course that would be too easy :-) @loribee, I was able to open the link that you sent me and something along those lines is what I was thinking for the chair. I prefer the ones with arms, though so I was thinking something small like that one, with open arms like the one in @chickadee2's link. I also like these chairs quite a lot. I have also toyed with @luckygal's idea of moving the living room to the office. The office is 9'x11'. I agree with the idea of at the very least painting the trim. I have seen some pics of it done, and it looks great. I was scared about doing it, but now I think I will. I also like the idea of a creamy color that was suggested for the walls and trim. If I work up the courage, I will remove the trim all together. Thanks again for all the wonderful thoughtful suggestions....See Moreshow me your second hand rooms, please
Comments (14)My Dining room table and chairs, were just what I was looking for and found on CL. I had a set that worked great in my previous home, but wanted something like this. DH agreed only if I could sell our set, which I did without a problem. The china cabinet in the background was bought at an antique store, it looks exactly like the one my grandmother had, but my stupid uncle let his ex-wife have it. My daughters' bedroom, entirely furnished with craigslist and ebay: Before pic of the french provincial furniture that all my little friends had as a child and I desperately wanted, but my parents had no money and couldn't afford to buy it. And the after pic: The little green upholstered chair was also bought on CL. The dresser, mirror, and highboy dresser were bought on CL for $150. There is also a desk that isn't pictured. The pair of twin beds were won on an auction on ebay for $139. We live in central NJ, and the beds were located in Philly. We drove there for the day and took our daughters to the Camden Aquarium. The beds will always have a story and a memory attached to them now. In my opinion the furniture that is purchased today is just lacking in quality. I would much prefer to buy solid wood furniture second hand and spruce them up....See MoreShow me your couchless living room
Comments (16)There is something in the linked pictures that I just can't put my finger on.....to me the four dark brown leather chairs a feeling of isolation and look like they had come from an expensive man-cave restaurant. I have a lot of leather in my home so that's not the issue. Of course Zuzu's arrangement is much more feminine and one could imagine having tea and gossip session while setting there. I love contemporary and often admire people who do things differently, but pulling it off is sometimes difficult. Without a sofa, the big question is "where can a body take a nap??". Stretching out in a chair with feet on coffee table isn't quite a comfortable as curling up on a sofa....See MorePlease show me pictures of your corner cabinets in dining room.
Comments (15)Thanks, my3dogs. I feel very lucky to have gotten it. I also have the dough trough he made. My sister has the bed and a desk (with a hidden compartment). Yes, Rob, the inside is painted. Both my grandmother and my mother painted it to match the dining room walls in their homes. I suspect everyone in the family always did that. I have not repainted. I love all these cupboards, whether corner cupboards or flat ones! They are a weakness of mine! Would love to find a step-back cupboard that I could afford. Found one once, but was with a friend who wanted it, so I didn't get it. Turns out she never did either-so disappointing. Then again, I would take any one of the ones all of you posted. Wonder how many would fit in the house??? :) Good luck on your search! I think the idea of trying to find some from houses that are being renovated is a good one. Lots of older homes had built in corner cupboards that people may be removing and there were often two in the dining room. Post pictures when you find what you want....See MoreErrant_gw
