Here are a couple of old pictures of mine. It was built by a great-great-great grandfather in the mid-1800s. I have since replaced the dining chairs with family antique ones. The corner cupboard is a little taller than 7', ~3' deep, and 52" across the front. This is the only corner that works since two walls have windows all the way across and the other wall is comprised of a center fireplace separating two rooms. I am thinking of moving it into the keeping room off the kitchen, but for now, here it is.

Relax, I haven't yet put up the Christmas decorations. These are from last year. I have 2 corner cabinets and a china closet in my dining room. That's how I know this house was meant for me because I have a rather large accumulation of china over the years :)

This cabinet is in the left corner if you stand with your back to the fireplace. There is an identical one in the right corner. Just to the left of the left corner hutch is the door to the hallway and continuing around to the left is the buffet.

Still going left from the buffet you can see the edge of the china closet that is on the same wall as the fireplace.

On the opposite side of the fireplace from the china closet is the door to the kitchen. Then continue left to the 3rd wall and then you hit the second corner cabinet in the far corner.

My corner cabinet came from a local antique shop and I painted it black. I've paired it with my 60's mcm family dining set that you've seen too many times.

Cyn427, you are SO fortunate to have that piece from from GGG grandfather! I'd have a hard time leaving the house if I owned something with that beauty and history.

Rafor, your wonderful old house is stunning, and makes me think of an old house restaurant that I enjoyed Thanksgiving in one year here in Maine. We were lucky to get the room with the fireplace and sat right next to it and the layout was very much like your room.

This is in my living room, but it's antique pine from Ireland. I got it at a consignment shop years ago for a bargain price.

This is in my dining room, and in a corner, but not a corner cupboard. I recently traded some Craigslist finds and a bit of cash for this, at a local shop.

I don't know where you live, but I see corner cupboards occasionally on Craigslist, many which have been taken out of old homes being re-done. Good luck in your search.

My3dogs: I saw your cabinet on an earlier post. It's gorgeous! And I am going to make sure I go to the Mustard House next time I'm up near Portland.

I also have another corner cabinet that I bought about 30 years ago when I lived in WI. I've carted it around to several houses since then. It's in the upstairs hall corner in this house since there aren't many available corners (most corners are gunstock corners).

I quite often see them on craigslist too and just missed out on one last week. I really only wanted the door from it since it was an arched door.

Yes, Rob, the inside is painted. Both my grandmother and my mother painted it to match the dining room walls in their homes. I suspect everyone in the family always did that. I have not repainted.

I love all these cupboards, whether corner cupboards or flat ones! They are a weakness of mine! Would love to find a step-back cupboard that I could afford. Found one once, but was with a friend who wanted it, so I didn't get it. Turns out she never did either-so disappointing. Then again, I would take any one of the ones all of you posted. Wonder how many would fit in the house??? :)

Good luck on your search! I think the idea of trying to find some from houses that are being renovated is a good one. Lots of older homes had built in corner cupboards that people may be removing and there were often two in the dining room. Post pictures when you find what you want.

Mine are being made by a local cabinet maker since it is a new house- if you can't find one, that might be another option for you?

Here is a link to the CLs cabinets I went to check out today. I am pretty sure I am going to get them - the size is right and it is very difficult to find someone selling 2 of the same.

My decor is pretty traditional and my dining table is Jacobean revival style (I think) with a dark finish. My first thought is to paint them white and trim them in to make them look like built-ins.

I will post more when I bring them home.

Oh wow, that price is a steal, IMHO! I would jump on those as fast as I could, if I even if I didn't have a corner to put them in! (And I don't....lol!)

Mine is a built-in. I have a thrift shop collection of styles in the room so not sure if it helps. I like the craiglist cabs I think they will look lovely with a traditional DR. Can not wait to see pics.

roarah, Thrift shop shopping, along with Craigslist and eBay is the best! It's what makes many homes unique and interesting.

Rob, those cabinets are a steal, even if it's $150 each. Sometimes the way an ad is worded allows for a different interpretation between the seller and buyer. But what you describe doing to them is wonderful! Add me to the list of those who can't wait to see pictures.

I agree those cabinets are a great deal whether $150/ea or $150 for the set. Do make sure to check the dimensions accurately to fit your space. As you say your DR is small, you may want to mock it up to make sure you can maintain clearance around your table.

Yes - it is $150 for both. I expect to pick them up tonight. They will take up less space than the sideboard that is in there now that we will be moving into the adjoining living room. The reason I wanted side cabinets was to free up the space between the wall and the head of the table. Thanks for all the great pictures!
