What would you do? (shed question)
Comments (7)I don't want a huge huge shed to fill up the entire space. Maybe either just on the right side of the rain downspout. I only need a space big enough to put a lawnmower, fertilizers (40 lbs. bags of soybean meal/alfalfa etc), mulch and bottled chemicals, the rest can stay in the garage. So I'm going to need something to cover them. I don't want plastic shed either. Here's what I found as far as our city code: B. Side Yard  Accessory buildings shall be set back a minimum of three feet (3Â) from an interior side property line. When accessory buildings are placed on corner lots adjacent to an exterior side yard setback, the accessory building shall be required to adhere to the exterior side yard setback established for the primary structure. When accessory buildings are constructed less than five feet (5Â) from a side property line, no windows, doors, or other penetrations of the exterior wall shall be allowed in the wall abutting the side property line. Where a garage or carport is designed to be entered from a side street, the structure shall be set back not less than twenty feet (20Â) from the exterior side property line. In Single-Family Estate (SF-E) and Agricultural I love that brick paver idea! Maybe I can incorporate that on the other side (like a walkway to the shed?)....See MoreDriving myself nuts...what would you do?
Comments (3)Ok, deep breath. Remember you're spending a lot of money and taking some time to research is part of the process. If I catch myself getting rattled, indecisive or feeling a lot of pressure, sometimes its good to remember that its not a life or death decision. If its not clear, do some more research or just take a week off from doing anything about the kitchen. First point, your carpenter can assemble and install any of them. Don't worry about that. I have Scherrs and they are rock solid. They are better much constructed than ikea. You can get any size of anything and not pay more for it. You order sample doors to see colors. There are a couple of things I wish ikea would improve in their cabinets, but they are likely better than jsi (more below). The cabinet size selection is poor. Their cam locks aren't the greatest, neither is the particle board. If put together and installed well, they should last a long time. Their drawers are fine. You can do something blended by getting scherrs to make the odd cabinets and your drawer fronts, trim pieces and doors for ikea cabinets. They know how. You can have ikea-cherry. From the published information on jsi's site, its impossible to tell how the cabinet is built. So I have just two bits of info to go on. I've seen the insides of a couple of brands of chinese cabinets and they were pretty crappy. The outsides looked nice, but the drawers and cabinet were constructed poorly. These remind me of those, but I could be wrong. You'd lose a lot of potential storage space in drawers because of the frames. Click the picture with the drawer extended and you'll see what I mean - the usable height of the drawer is a little more than half of the height of the drawer front. Also, the "dovetail" drawer only has three pretty chunky dovetails and visible sanding defects. The surrounding doors have stain blotches. This is what they photographed to show you how wonderful they are... Diamond is a problem - they are very pretty and have a large selection of sizes and types. The way the cabinets are made - the dimensions of the pieces and the way they are assembled - isn't very good. So, as an every day quality measure and completely unfair I might add, I've never seen a diamond display intact and I've not seen an ikea built-in cabinet display falling apart. YMMV. hth...See MoreWhat would you do? A materials design question.
Comments (4)Matching the countertop with the floor would work better than introducing a third or fourth material. Unless you can't find a matching slab to coordinate with the tile. Mix-matching the two would be worse. also, keeping to the tone of "simple is better", using a 4" backsplash to match the countertop will help with the cohesivness(I may have made up a that word!) Just my 2 cents....See MoreAnother 'what would you do' question
Comments (27)This isn't a new problem. She was first diagnosed with bipolar disorder probably 25 years ago. (I'm not sure exactly when, because she had various other diagnoses for years before that.) She's had excellent, cutting edge psychiatric treatment from two world-renowned medical centers, has been hospitalized several dozen times, has been on virtually every psych med known to mankind, usually when they're in their trial phase or soon thereafter. She's had four courses of ECT. She sees two therapists. Everyone involved knows that she abuses her meds. As for boundaries, she would tell you that I am heartless and set far too many boundaries. But there is a limit to what boundaries you can set when they have no teeth. The only boundary I haven't set that I *want* to set is, "Stay clean or you're out." But she knows I won't kick her out because of my niece, and she manipulates me with this. So be it. I can live with that much better than I could live with knowing my niece was stuck in some crappy apartment alone with my sister. At any rate, I wrote a quick note to the doctor tonight, so thanks for all the input....See Moremoonie_57 (8 NC)
