Groundcover for a slope? Zone 6b

Looking for ground cover that will retain a slope. It is in part shade. There are plants growing in parts of it, mostly dogwood seedlings, redbud seedlings, azaleas and I think daffodils. The ground over that there is now is a couple of inches off the ground and not certain when I walk on it if it is hiding snakes or poison ivy. I have little kids otherwise would not be an issue.

Would ajuga be strong enough to retain the slope without the slope becoming a muddy eroded mess when it rains? Will it choke out the other plants? If it works which ajuga should I get please? I especially like the light blue I had at another house.
