Question About Mauves/Lavenders/Purples In Full Sunlight
Comments (12)I think you do need someone in TX to tell you. Fragrant Plum for me in the hot afternoon sun of 100 and higher baked after a day and the blooms crisped and browned all summer. This is my mini, Twilight Skies planted in front of it in July. 2nd day am bloom for FP and the edges are crisped and burned. FP even got the shade before the mini did. In that heat they were the same shade. I think that pics speak nicely. I had to transplant it in Sept to a shady afternoon place. Oct pic of it. Angel Face on the other hand in full all day sun round the clock, color got purer as the heat got higher. No crisping on that rose. A mini flora that does well in the high heat and sun also is Sweet Arlene. Mine ended the year at 3-1/2'tall and it's not done, that was at 7 months old. Beautiful roses for cutting and a strong fragrance. (to take pics of the roses in full sun, I make the shade) Leslie...See MoreWild Rover, and other dark mauve/purples
Comments (8)Kim, I already do have RinB. It's maybe in it's 3rd year, repeating nicely (but the weather has been quite clement so far; only one week of loathsome heat, and we even got...RAIN!!!!!!!!). For some reason, I don't like it as much as I think I should; a certain lack of delicacy in overall colour effect? not sure, but it doesn't make me almost "swoon" with delight the way Purple Skyliner does,or General Stefanik (too bad that's a once-bloomer. Other favourites: Excellenz Von Schubert, Raymond Privat...I'm trying Lavender Friendship, too, but plants too young still for me to have an opinion. Also, this Rosengarten Zweibrucken looks like a winner,colour-wise at least, but again, plants too young for me to form a real opinion. Instead, I think Perennial Blue may end up as a candidate for The Shovel. Healthy and vigorous, but the flowers lasted so briefly and were fried and ugly-ish; kind of stunted even...and the temperatures were basically pretty moderate here, by recent standards. There are still so many on my wish list, especially if you start counting the once-bloomers... bart...See MoreDoes anyone grow iris?
Comments (30)Hi chelone :-) I have some of your Siberian iris! lol I really should rename them Rte 95 iris. :-) I just found out from someone on the iris forum who is planning on going into the iris business in 2008, that she has over 100 varieites of siberian iris so far. I didn't even know there were that many. They seem indestructible. So tell me, are all your German iris unnamed? Are they tall bearded, or other? I haven't tried the Japanese, and guess I won't considering I have dry soil pretty much and no low spots to speak of. Have any photos of some of your iris? :-)...See More2020 Color Thread: LAVENDER/MAUVE/PURPLE
Comments (59)Hi Carol, I'm following you around the forum, I guess. We're the two night owls--but I had a huge nap late in the evening, so now, of course, I'm wide awake. It was a nice day today--92F, actually, and tomorrow will be cooler yet. Then we have a high of 70F. Can you believe that? We're going into the season of up and down weather. But it's still horribly dry with no rain since May. I feel so badly for California and their awful fires. Over 4000 lightening strikes started the whole mess, and since Aug 15, 1.25million acres have burned, plus five deaths and 3500 structures destroyed. As you can guess, I read all this earlier in the day. We have lucked out with just a few smaller fires this season. I agree with your daughter about fall and allergies--they do get better. I suffer from them, too. Anyway, we had a nice BBQ, and my granddaughter Clare was over. She's feeling better, but the covid mess has been very hard on her. She actually had it, and has been over the stuff for several weeks now. What a relief. Have a nice day tomorrow. I don't suppose Canada has a Labor Day holiday tomorrow. Every day is pretty much the same around here. Diane...See MorePoorbutroserich Susan Nashville
