Hardy purple or lavender rose?
Comments (3)Reine des Violettes would be a great Hybrid Perpetual for your area. Also, most (all?) of those wonderful purple-blue-gray Gallicas should be fine in your climate. RdV repeats fairly well once it attains some size. The Gallicas will be spring/early summer blooming only....See MoreShort purple/lavender colored companion flower for roses
Comments (20)Hi enchanted, it's Diane again. Previously I had suggested that Lauren's Grape poppy was a wonderful plant of the most gorgeous color. Lauren Ogden, a well known garden writer, seed expert, and book author is the developer of this poppy which she selected for over and over in her own garden, till she got the pure strain for Lauren's Grape seed. It's widely available now, but my favorite seeds are from the company, Renee's Garden, and they call their seeds, Lauren's Dark Grape, and it is a rich and dark color. These are annuals and bloom briefly, but the plant can fit about anywhere. The leaves are a beautiful silvery color, and I love the "pepper shaker" seed pod that develops. Let the plant reseed or gather seeds after the pod is ripe, and scatter in late winter or very early spring. Here are a couple of pics, taken by my talented granddaughter. There was a little too much sun the day these were taken. If you've seen my photos, I should mention that every one of them she photographed. Comments (12)A couple of other suggestions: Purple Skyliner is a great rose, very very prolific bloomer, and I think the big clusters of small-ish purple flowers would be lovely with a large-flowered purple clematis. Perennial blue is also beautiful, but for me basically a once-bloomer. I am excited about Quicksilver; have it on order. I also have Climbing Angel Face, but here in zone 6 it needs protection (it does BS, too). For me, Stormy Weather and Night Owl have not really developed into climbers yet, though they may do so more quickly for you in a warmer zone. I like Christopher's suggestion of a yellow; I would add a suggestion for my personal favorite combo - a pink climber with a purple clematis! The only difficulty here is that if you want them to bloom together, you have to choose carefully: I find that a lot of my clematis come into bloom after the main rose flush. There are of course endless beautiful pink climbers to choose from, so I won't even go into varieties! Whatever you decide, best of luck! I'm sure whatever you choose will be gorgeous!...See MoreLavender/Purple Rose Suggestion
Comments (43)I'm not sure what to make of those lyrics, witchy. Did you have a bad night with some deer repellent spray? I've had that stuff blow back at me straight in the face so many times--the oil of peppermint makes my lips numb. That's an ingredient in Deer Out. Carol, you nut! Maria Callas was a bigger diva that Babs. Good luck with that rose. By the way, my 18 year old granddaughter, Jemma, had a solo voice recital tonight, and we have a future Callas on our hands. She killed it, but she has a lovelier voice than Callas in my unbiased opinion. It was a rare time out for me and so much fun (I'm still in quarantine). Are you stuck at home, too? I brought rose bouquets to the table, and made a bouquet of Ascot for Jemma's teacher. Oh, I reread your post, and you went out to buy Callas, you lucky dog. Boise's numbers are going up, and we had to go back to level 3 opening up. All the bars had to close because the young people couldn't stay out of them and all tested positive.
