finally I am getting rid of mealies.....
Comments (13)You read my mind yes Ladybugs do eat mealies, I forgot to tell the group. Always put them out at night time, and if you have only a few, isolate them say in the house or room and realease the Lady's at night, store them in the refrig. until you are ready to use them. They will die if they don't have anything to eat so leave and escape open for them to leave and find food. You local nursery may have other natural controls, I never kill a spider in my greenhouse they eat mealies. Pesticides are the last resort. I saw my first Humming bird today, so it must be Spring where I live. My Gasteria are coming into flower and the orange tree as well, I also bring the infected plants into the house and spray them with real soap nothing added. Or I use a 20% alcohol spray, that does it instantly, or only a few I use a Qtip and dip it in anything like mouth wash and just put it on the few mealies that I have. Whisky will work if you have nothing else and don't want to leave the house. I then take the hose and wash them off with a sharp spray of water. These are some ideas you may want to try. I've used Mr. Clean, Amway liquid soap 1+ tbs per gal of water. Windex spray, then spray with water within 5 min. I'm sure all of you can come up with plenty more, and I've tried all of them. Comments (14)Keep going Talley. Stuff like the hot rollers? Yes, donate if they still work. Full puzzles. yes, yes. I buy puzzles to use the pieces for crafts for my kids. Doesn't matter if they are all there or not. Needed curlers one year for a Halloween costume. I can see someone buying the rollers to paint and create some fun garden art. You have to stop thinking that people buy the stuff for the original purpose. They don't. I'm always looking for wool skirts that someone put in the wash and shrunk. I make braided wool rugs and those skirts are perfect. If clothing is really too worn out, I always cut the buttons off. A jar of buttons is great stuff for crafts. Then I cut the clothing up and use it for rags. Much better than throwing it out and then grabbing a paper towel. We keep a stash in the garge for things like wiping up oil and other things where I won't want to wash the rag. Just throw it away then. To me, books are consumables. I buy them at the thrift store, read and re-donate. Our library takes donations and then has a huge sale twice a year. I'm a long time quilter and I do some sewing (but more of a wanna be with that one). I got rid of my fabric stash several years ago. I think this fabric hoarding is awful. I've been a quilt appraiser for several years and am amazed at how much money people spend for stuff to just sit on the selves for years. Let's live our lives, not store them. I know you are in the city, so it's different than me just putting a bag in the van for the next time I'm out, but just fill a grocery bag every day and drop it off. Don't wait for a big load to go. Comments (9)I'm glad you were able to get out there and get started. Didn't it feel so good???? There's nothing wrong with being late. It is better than not ever getting the planting done at all, and most years, a late planting of most things still will produce a nice harvest. The horrific heat/drought of 2011 was not a year when late planting paid off, but most years are not like 2011. The older and stiffer I get, the more I find that I have to pace myself and not overdo things too much in one day, but I just work along at it as steadily as possible and try to stay on task and on track. We're not spring chickens any more, but that doesn't mean we have to give up gardening---we just garden at a different pace now. Some years, the weather makes it impossible for even the most schedule-driven gardener to get everything done "on time", so I've learned to settle for just getting things done eventually. Eventually also is better than never. I hope to spend more time in the garden today despite all the mud and standing water. With all the rain this week, it has been hard to do anything more than just harvesting....See MoreDoes this 1/3 offset tile pattern work for my backsplash?
Comments (36)Omg Sherri! That's gorgeous tile! I love the way the light hits the slight waviness in the handmade tiles and sparkles. What brand and color tile is that? You MUST do a reveal because I know people here will go crazy for your backsplash and your entire kitchen. Oh and is that soapstone too? I love the slab drawers with that glass front cab that has the glass on the side to. You have an excellent tile setter because you cannot see any slope in the ceiling at all. And look at the little cuts he did for that outlet? Are you kidding me...he's a perfectionist. (Actually, I should edit that your tiler could just as well be a woman. I'm gonna try this myself!) You are very fortunate. Have you seen the crazy hacked tile threads lately? I hope I don't end up one.... Okay, I think I just hijacked my own thread. LOL! But, seriously please, please do a reveal. It doesn't need professional photos. Yours above are great....See Morerebunky
