Master bedroom is all done
Comments (16)It was Aura?! Oh, my. I think I love some of those colors, too, but painting might have to remain a dream again for awhile. I'm looking at some of their paint for cabinetry, but that's probably going to have to remain a dream, if that's what they're going for! Wow! BTW. I love your home. I have those same types of floors, but I'm not sure what wood it is. I'll have to check. The minor difference is that the boards in my floor are 6-8' long. Other than that, I think we might have the same stuff! Extremely durable. Christine...See MoreDoes you master bath color match master bedroom
Comments (14)Nothing wrong with mixing up colors. The colors should coordinate a bit so they flow from one room to another. My master suite is three rooms in an "L" shape, the sitting room is in the middle. All three rooms are open to one another with doorless archways, so they do flow visually. The center room, the sitting room, has deep red/burgundy walls and a cream/ivory trim color. Off one side of the sitting room is the bathroom. The the trim and cabinets are the same cream/ivory as the sitting room, but the wall are somewhat beige. Off to the other side of the sitting room is our bedroom. In there the walls are sort of a cream/ivory, and the trim/cabinets/wainscot is a deep muted historical green. The cream/ivory sort of ties the three rooms together and the other colors sort of bounce off that. For bathrooms which can be dominated by hard surfaces (fixtures/tile/stained wood) where the color of those items can be difficult or expensive to change, I usually recommend that those hard surfaces be a neutral or somewhat muted color. Then the wall color, or soft accent items like towels and throw rugs, curtains, etc, which are easy to change, be the stronger and sometimes more vibrant accent color. The hard surface colors in our bathroom are sort of neutral (cream cabinets and trim, beige walls, natural teak for the countertops and tub deck, tile is cream and charcoal), we change the color of the towels/rugs whenever we feel like it. Sometimes to a strong color; deep green, cranberry red, etc, sometimes to a soft neutral like beige, off-white, etc. And there is nothing wrong experimenting with colors either, especially paint. At roughly 10 cents a square foot coverage for basic formulations, paint color can be inexpensive and fairly easy to change....See Morecoordinating rug for master bedroom
Comments (18)Tiffany...quit shouting. remove the caps when you type! kerrs----oh well hell,,,ok,,lol. quite a bit of changing you're doing. based on all of that, then I see where you're going. but the magenta is still throwing me a bit. those pillows on the bed,,,what are those? And the fabric on the headboard, is that brown? Sorry, but your photos are not helping. what you need to do is post a pic of all your changes, i see the floor, but I can't make out the headboard fabric. is it a dark gray or a brown? do you have any idea on the comforter/bedding selection? I think if you're doing those chairs as an accent, then bring in the dark mustard/gold tone (like the fabric) instead of a magenta. you don't need 3 accent colors in this room. since the chair has two of them, use those. You already have the gold in the mirror, so I don't think adding magenta will help. just leave it in the ensuite w/the grays. just do the teals w/hints of gold/mustard. this one brings your chairs to the party. you don't need magenta. work w/these colors the tile in the bathroom around the tub, is that staying? (it's very yellow looking) gray and magenta in the bathroom is fine (however, those tiles, if not replaced, maybe your should spray epoxy them in a solid color?) use the magenta/fuschia in your flowers and perhaps some towels. that's about all you can do in there. did you look at the color wheel link?...See MoreAdvice on choosing an oriental rug for master bedroom
Comments (19)Anglophilia makes a good point about the dresser issues. What kind of dresser you need and if you even need a dresser at all depends on what kind of closet situation you have. Some people have such fantastic huge closets with all sorts of built-ins, they don't need dressers at all! As to what type of dresser(s), maybe you can give us the dimensions of your room, and better yet, make a plan of your room with dimensions, and locations of windows and doors and closets and how the doors open, and where you think you want to put your bed, and what size it is, so Houzzers can give better suggestions. While a highboy does take up less space, the traditional triple dresser has the advantage of doing double duty as a TV stand if you want your TV in the bedroom. Another thing about hand knotted Persian carpets - they may not be the best idea if you eat crackers in bed. They should not be vacuumed frequently, it loosens the knots. What you can do daily is use a carpet sweeper which is a lightweight non-electrical device that doesn't use suction so it doesn't loosen the knots. They range from $15 cheapos at Target to $50 preemos from Fuller Brush that are made with natural boar bristles. I'm a Fuller Brush gal back from my school days when my mother sat in the kitchen with "the Fuller Brush Man" while he showed her his wares and she bought a lot. That company made really fine things and still does. But no more house calls! And this- is not for a recalcitrant spouse. You can hang your good rug on a line or over a railing and yes, smack it to get out dust, etc. People don't do this that much any more now that they use vacuums, but beaters are better. For lots of things :) Back to the rugs. You can vacuum once in a while, but don't make a habit of it....See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
