No, you do not have to replace it. I have replaced just the outdoor unit on occasion. Depending upon the quality, age, condition, and efficiency of the current indoor unit, you may find it advantageous to replace both. A reputable contractor can evaluate the unit and give you options.

How old is outside condenser? What brand and model? If only replacing outside condenser, you should try to correctly match up new condenser to your old air handler, that would be Lennox AHRI match.

My outside condenser is 8 years old. It is a lennox signature collection model 3.5 tons. It says it has 10 year warranty. Do you know if it is worth going after the warranty . I am shopping for prices for new condenser rather a whole new system which l can not afford at this time. Thanks much for your time and info.

Need model numbers both outside condenser and inside air handler. You need to understand your options specifically cost of replacement condenser or just replacing compressor which should be under warranty if system was properly registered with Lennox....what does your dealer say?...

The only thing that might need replacing in the indoor unit would be the evaporator. And perhaps only if the compressor failed in a way that crap circulated to the evaporator. Once again, this would be a warranty thing.

Sales person told me he won't install a new condenser or change out the compressor. He wants to sell me a new system. He said the original was a bad install. Looking to have another contractor come out. The system is 8 years old and was registered with lennox. Don't know who to believe.
