I have Verizon 15mb dsl but haven't used their email in eons... they forward to my Microsoft email account any email that goes to myuser@gte.net or @Verizon.net plus there is one other @ name from 20 plus years ago that I cant remember. All of them seem to still work.

They haven't mailed me in Florida anything about the aol change.

I second this suggestion. I have three gmail accounts and have them configured to download to my desktop mail program (Thunderbird), because I dislike having to use a browser to access my mail. I never get spam because their filters work very well after they "learn" the type of mail you receive. If you travel, or even if you move across the country, you still have your same mail address.

Thank you all for your input. It's been a nightmare trying to get this set up as well as getting access to my emails from last week and hundreds of my contacts from Outlook.

Now I'm attempting to setup AOL email on Outlook.

HELP NEEDED . . .

I have a Verizon account and a Verizon email address.

Forcing us to switch over to AOL has caused a numerous amount of unethical and unfair problems.

Among them . . . full access to my Verizon - Yahoo homepage.

It continually asks for my email address . . . which Verizon now fails to recognize at this point.

THAT BLOCKS ME.

I want to continue playing Yahoo fantasy sports online . . . and not being able to will be a real cut in the services provided.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to address Verizon with the concern ???

On April 1, Verizon services in California, Texas and Florida will move to the Frontier network.

We've been Frontier here (IN) for around 2-3 years (maybe more). Guess they're dragging their feet getting things switched over!

We don't currently have Verizon/Frontier, but I helped my neighbor transfer everything when they switched it over. I just followed their online help and everything went fine for them with the switch. The links I used were in the Email that Bill and Joyce received from Frontier about the switch.

It would be fine IF that happened.

Right now . . . all we have is a verizon.net email address . . . and some lousy AOL webpage that no one in their right mind would be satisfied with.

It is a second rate crappy service.

Every time I hear about problems like this, I encourage people to get an email account like Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo so you are not tethered to your ISP provider of the moment.

Well . . . in my opinion . . . Verizon screwed us royally by sticking us with some AOL website that is second rate at best.

We pay for a service . . . and we got shafted.

At the very least one would assume that they would make some improvements on AOL before forcing us to go over there without a choice.

What up with that ???

Verizon is guilty of the "bait and switch" game . . . and should be fined accordingly.

One last thing . . .

To add insult to injury when you call Verizon to discuss their screw job they direct your call to the Philippines.

English is their second language.

And . . . the truth is . . . it is hard to hold a meaningful conversation.

In actuality . . . there is nothing that any of their so-called customer service people can do to help you.

NOTHING.

It basically is a waste of time ! ! !

So, Have they switched to Frontier yet? What happens if you go to Frontier.com and Sign-In there? There is a place to check you Email on the Frontier Page! Here are the instruction for Setting Up Frontier Email in Outlook:

I second kudzu9's recommendation - get a free separate email account. An additional advantage is that it's easy to access with a smart phone, in additional to your computer.

BUT . . . OF COURSE . . . IT IS THE SAME EMAIL ADDRESS AND PASSWORD THAT WE ARE USING ON AOL.

Frontier so far is pretty funny & frustrating too to me.

I now have my original Verizon email which is actually older mike@gte.net forwards to mail.AOL.com which forwards to mike@hotmail.com . I did get some kind of customer access code number mailed to my Hotmail which was on the account for Verizon as contact email. I have no idea what to do with that yet.

But I go to Frontier and I don't seem to have an account yet.. to pay my bill online... keeps sending me around in circles. I imagine they are kind of busy right now.

I can see how they have probably messed up big time... my Verizon mail all forwarded to Hotmail... when they changed me to mail.aol.com... they quit forwarding it to Hotmail and had it all going to AOL. If I hadn't realized what happened .. I'd be missing and wondering where some very important mail was.

I'd almost suspect Verizon will have their FIOS in my neighborhood in coming months and be offering FIOS packages at lesser prices than Frontier sells the services it bought from verizon. Kind of like using the money they sold me to frontier for, to string fiber to my neighborhood. Lots of this area already has been slowly getting the FIOS strung around.

Believe it or not . . . Frontier has a customer service team located in the Philippines as well.

They are probably in the next booth over from Verizon . . . which probably explains why everything is so screwed up.

Philippines phone companies. The most crooked bunch of communication business people in the world I think. All things Philippines are Bribery or take it from the foreigner money trees mentality and put it in their personal pockets. Buy a bunch of shoes for the wife to make her feet pretty and impress the neighbors :)
