Some ISPs will allow some time before shutting down access to give people time to notify everybody that they've changed their email address. I wouldn't count on it lasting very long.

Some run programs to clear up those no longer exists accounts from the servers once per month,, or more often... some once per day.

My sister paid $5 per month to keep one at her old isp... one of my old isp's told me to dont worry, they'd not kill my email until no activity from me, or if a very long time passes and still I was using it i would get an email saying goodbye and it would be marked so next time they checked accounts it would be auto deleted.

chemocurl Yes I know I have been warned.But out here in the sticks I have very limited choices.Dialup that will not work because of poor phone lines.Or Hughesnet or Wildblue or Starband.I had Hughesnet for 3 years and most hate it.But I did not mind it until it needed to get someone out here to work on it.You need a translator to talk with them on the phone and you get the run around.It was fine while it worked however.

So I switched to this through Dishnetwork and I have a good local installer who I can get if service is needed.

Most of the complaints with satelite internet is people expect it to be Highspeed and fast.That it is not and sometimes it is slow and other times it is slower.Also if you download alot you will get Fapped.But it still beats Dialup and works for me.

It sounds like Hughesnet must have customer service (???) farmed out to somewhere overseas.

Back when I had WB (about 12 days before cancelling it), I had several outages and it was always an hour or more on hold to get in touch with a tech. After one storm, a tech told me I would not have service again until the sky was clear...as in a clear blue sky, as opposed to being cloudy and overcast...sheesh.

The last time I talked to Wild Blue repair (before cancelling it) I was told it would be 10 days to get someone out here to look at my 12 day old equipment. In the meantime, I had no service at all.

I said I wasn't gonna rant, but just can't help how badly they upset me. I really never expected WB to be all that fast. I would have just been pleased if it worked at all. I, like you, had phone line 'issues' and was told that they (the Phone Co) was only responsible for providing 'talk quality' service.

Yes Hughesnet customer service is farmed out overseas.Alot depends on the install.If you get a poor install job you will have problems.With either Hughesnet or Wildblue and weather will cause issues.I was lucky with both installers.Today is very heavy overcast and yesterday was rain all day and all was fine.Yesterday was a little slow but today is fast.But even during the heavy rain it worked fine.Hughnet was the same way until after 3 years and I had a issue with water getting into the feedhorn.It needed service and probably a new feedhorn.They tried to tell me I would need a new modem and would have to sighn a new contract.Thats when I made the switch to Wildblue.

I had WildBlue for several years, and I will say that their service has improved a great deal over time. They work their FAP differently than HughesNet, so that if you must download a huge amount in one day, it does not run you over the limit, since it is a rolling 30 day affair. Fortunately, I now have Verizon wireless broadband available, and it is much faster than satellite. Still, for those who have no other choice but dialup, satellite does fill a need. By the way, I have not cancelled my account as yet but have my account on "hold", and my e-mail account still works. WildBlue's e-mail server is G-mail. I will be cancelling before the end of the month. Anyone need satellite equipment???

When I canceled Verizon, they cut off my email immediately.
