Grout and Caulk: Bill, why didn't I listen?
Comments (16)Geesh...the grout in the wrong place must be the most common discussed problem with contractors. Amazing. Everywhere I go (hotels, restaurants, etc), there is more grouted change of planes, than caulked. I bet these same contractors in their homes....they are caulked, they know they will crack if grouted. But they just want to bang the job out and not return...so grouting everywhere is easier. Lesson to be learned....get it in writing in your contract and make sure you have teeth in your contract.Specifically, percent payment upon completion of a significant amount to make it worth their while to correct....See More'I should have listened to you sooner.'
Comments (4)often we try to get all the things we have to do before noon and then it's quiet time the rest of the day...(not so today...helped ds1)dh has a high stress job so it's important... even when the kids were little, sunday was regroup day...we rarely did anything after church...our fave was to fold out the hide-a-bed, all pile on and do games, watch football, or talk... i don't know how families do it these days...they never seem have time to breathe!...See MoreI listened to you all and RE DESIGNED. What do u think??
Comments (62)It looks great but I caution you against 6 skinny posts. Porch posts should not be closer together than the height of the posts. 5 posts would only work if you got rid of the useless front door. 4 posts would be good too but I would make them at least 6" square (not round). That even aligns better with the front door than what the designer drew which would be obvious if the designer hadn't moved the door over in the computer model. (I wouldn't be moving useless doors if I had a tight budget.) It also allows wider front steps. Front steps should always be wide and welcoming with room for a plant or two. If the center dormer is made wider perhaps the roof of it could continue down to the main roof forming a gable-front dormer. Not much more expensive (maybe less expensive) but possibly a lot more elegant....See MoreOK, Should of listened. Should of repotted.
Comments (15)It looked good when I bought it at Lowes. It was in a 6 inch plastic pot, It was very wet, but I let it dry out as recommended, but did not repot. I thought I was careful watering, but one morning I checked and the soil felt like a drippy sponge. That is when I repotted into a 4 inch pot and used the mix recommended (one half African violet potting soil and one half perlite). It is doing great and the blooms lasted most of December. It is not blooming again yet, but looks very healthy. The "soil" must have been peat as mentioned, because like I said it felt like a sponge. They must have just potted up to a 6 inch pot, because there were only a few roots at the outside, and that was why it was staying so wet. I had been advised to repot at the first, so that was the reason for the title of this post. This is my first in a quite a few years. I had another post where I was looking for one similar to mine from the 1970's....See Moreauntpetunia
