I think my first citrus tree is sick
Comments (3)Citrus leafminer attacking watersprout growth, which is very tender. Just a sign of rapid growth. You can prune back if you want, to the edge of the canopy for looks. The water sprouts will settle down on their own. You can search our forum for CLM treatments, we talk about it ad nauseum on this forum. It is mainly cosmetic and citrus growers' bane. Comments (1)You'll need to inspect your plants to see what condition of the roots are in. After two years, even if not root bound, the soil medium has broken down (collapsed) and is not providing those roots with something that is ESSENTIAL: oxygen! If you intend to keep your plants in the same large containers indefinitely, you'll need to remove the plants periodically to exchange the potting medium with a coarse, fast draining mix and maybe even do some annual root pruning. Citrus respond very well to long term container culture, but just like any other plant, require a little bit of care (repotting and root pruning) in order to remain healthy....See MoreSicK Multigrafted Citrus Tree
Comments (3)I think it probably is also fertilizer burn. I would look at the N source in your fertilizer. If is is mostly from urea, this is not a good choice for container citrus. I would switch to Osmocote Plus and Dyna Gro Foliage Pro. Also, I would actually check how much water has accumulated at the bottom of the pot. You say you are checking moisture at the "root level", but if that tree's container has turned into a bath tub, and your moisture meter isn't checking all the way down, you're also dealing with root rot. Get a stick and push it down to the bottom of your container and see how wet it is down there. You say you added pine bark to the soil - how did you do that? Did you pull the tree out and completely change all the potting medium? If you just added it to the top, that won't help drainage. Pretty sure we're looking at two things - too wet and too much biuret build up from your fertilizer. Patty S....See MoreIn ground citrus trees in greenhouse north of citrus zones
Comments (25)Hi guys, it is cold out and hibernation is the only way :) we did not have sunshine for almost 10 days, overcast and dark, short days. Yesterday and today there was some sunshine. The trees by the windows are not growing, I think they are taking a break, the small grafted ones under lights are putting out few leaves at a time. Summer is so far away!...See Moreuncle molewacker z9b Danville CA (E.SF Bay)
